Hallelujah Lyrics

It is obvious that all the lyrics are scattered, so what I want to do it to put together as many as we can to see what we get.
This is the start, post a new verse each time that you find one, please don't post the same one.
i heard there was a secret chord
that david played and it pleased the lord
but you don't really care for music, do you
well it goes like this the fourth, the fifth
the minor fall and the major lift
the baffled king composing hallelujah
well your faith was strong but you needed proof
you saw her bathing on the roof
her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
she tied you to her kitchen chair
she broke your throne and she cut your hair
and from your lips she drew the hallelujah
baby i've been here before
i've seen this room and i've walked this floor
i used to live alone before i knew you
i've seen your flag on the marble arch
but love is not a victory march
it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
well there was a time when you let me know
what's really going on below
but now you never show that to me do you
but remember when i moved in you
and the holy dove was moving too
and every breath we drew was hallelujah
well, maybe there's a god above
but all i've ever learned from love
was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you
it's not a cry that you hear at night
it's not somebody who's seen the light
it's a cold and it's a broken hallelujah
just post a reply and i will add them on as the forum is built.

Other sections of this site have all the verses, including the occasional word/line variations
from live shows:
Original from 'Various Positions' album:
Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this he fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew her
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well, really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light in every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah
I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I learned to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my lips but Hallelujah
additional verses
Baby, I've been here before.
I know this room, I've walked this floor.
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch,
But love is not some kind of victory march,
No it's a cold and it's a very broken Hallelujah.
There was a time you let me know
What's really going on below,
but now you never show it to me, do you?
I remember when I moved in you,
And the holy dove was moving too,
and every breath we drew was Hallelujah.
Now maybe there's a God above,
As for me, all I ever learned from love
Is how to shoot at someone who outdrew you.
and it's no complaint you hear tonight,
and It's not some pilgrim who's seen the light
it's a cold and it's a very lonely Hallelujah.

Nope, the lyrics posted by Davido are all what was performed by Leonard, although he did mention he has written more. It's printed version from Cohen's 1993 book of selected poetry and lyrics
Stranger Music. People who're covering it are merging additional verses into the original song, sometimes dropping some verses. You can compare Leonard
studio version (1985) and
live version (1988).

I've been reading some Leonard Cohen stuff lately, and i heard (though i forget where) that there could be as many as 80 verses, and i heard that 36 have been released for artists to record... allthough i havnt had any luck tracking down any of the rarer ones...
I would love to see them if anyone knows where though, and ill post them here if i have any luck.

Perhaps Leonard should finally record the eighty verse version? That should put the others in the shade!
Cheers, John E

Here's "Hallelujah" translated ito Spanish on Google Translate, then translated back into English using same!
Well, I had heard a secret chord
David played, and pleased the Lord
But no matter for music as I do?
Well, says
The fourth, fifth
The lowest and the highest lift fall
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
His good faith was strong but I needed evidence
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight that overthrew
that tied him to his kitchen chair
And she broke your throne and she cut her hair
And your lips that drew the Hallelujah
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Baby so I've been here before
I've seen this room and I walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew
I saw your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory in March
It is a cold and a broken Hallelujah
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
So there was a time when you let me know
What really happens next
But now that I never, no?
And remember, when I moved in you?
And the holy dove was moving too
And that is every breath Hallelujah
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Well maybe there is a God above
But all I have learned of love
Was how to shoot someone who had DREW OUT NOW
And it's not a cry that is heard in the night
It is not someone who has seen the light
It is a cold and a broken Hallelujah
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
Aleluya
