To Women, As Far As I'm Concerned - D. H. Lawrence

The feelings I don't have I don't have.
The feelings I don't have, I won't say I have.
The feelings you say you have, you don't have.
The feelings you would like us both to have, we
___neither of us have.
The feelings people ought to have, they never have.
If people say they've got feelings, you may be pretty
___sure they haven't got them.
So if you want either of us to feel anything at all
you'd better abandon all idea of feelings altogether.

This is humourous and, perhaps, in its way, true. I know of more than one man who would subscribe to it wholeheartedly  .

Hi Lizzy and Birdonawire,

...And so you both say that this is how you feel about this. ;-)

Find the word "feel" in my posting, Steven... and a million dollars is yours ;-) . Not only that, except for what's "true," there's no conditionality in my comments at all... quite definitive, in fact  .

Aw come on Lizzy, though the word "feel" isn't there, the kinesthetic of "humourous"
which isn't a thought but something felt in the body sure is. But, on this
technicality, I guess I don't get the million dollars. :)

I didn't say I laughed, Steven ;-) . I said it was humourous... a mental observation/assessment ;-) ;-) . The million is still in escrow, though, so all hope's not lost, yet.

If his mum hadn't bought him that writing pad and 'Cross' pen (made in Eire) from W H SMIFFS all those years ago, we'd all be the poorer/purer for it. :?

Hi Lizzy,

Nah. Feelings, humor, among among them, are thoughts that are manifested somewhere
in the body. Where and how varies by individual. But, when a feeling (emotion)
is there, it's a different animal than "a mental observation/assessment."

Okay, so exactly what is it you need the money for, Steven ;-) ?

Follow with me on this trajectory and see where we end up:
Feelings . . . are thoughts . . .

. . . But, when a feeling (emotion) . . . a different animal than "a mental observation/assessment."
Feelings [A] = thoughts
feeling (emotion] [A] "a different animal than" [NOT=] mental observation/assessment

Do you follow me not following you, Steven :) ? [It's still in escrow, though.] However, I do agree with you about feelings manifesting [even lodging] themselves in your body; I'm not giving extra credit for it, though ;-) . If I'm letting go of this million, it's going to have to be hard-earned :) .

Hi Lizzy,

Well, the million could be put to: purchase of Leonard Cohen re-releases, maybe a trip to
Hydra, the new Springsteen CD...

Feelings differ from more cerebral thoughts in that their presence/affect is more
in the body (sometimes evident in the muscle tone, breathing flow, and otherwise).
I think I did follow your not following me, but relinquishment of the million might
be prejudicing your feelings about this. :)

I'M sorry he ever put pen to paper. Read some of his novels and poetry overy the years and found them turgid and boring in the extreme. I believe in his native Eastwood he was known as 'Mardy Lawrence'. Whenver I've read anything by him, I feel as though I've put in a great deal of effort for not very much. And I bet he was lousy in bed.
