Which 5 Cds?

Post by jerry »

You're abducted by aliens and taken to their home planet never to return to earth again. But before you leave your new alien friends allow you to take 5 cds with you.Which 5 cds would you take.

Leonard Cohen-Songs Of
Bob Dylan-Blood On The Tracks
The Beatles-Abbey Road
Bruce Springsteen-Born To Run
The Velvet Underground-The Velvet Underground and Nico

SWEET set, jerry!! i can't pick just 5 so it looks like if the aliens are gonna abduct me they're gonna have to wait for me to bring my whole cd collection, or else they just have to kill me. then i wont have to worry about it.

Not an easy choice Jerry :!:
1) Christy Moore, Ride On
1) The Pogues, Rum, Sodomy and the Lash
2) Leonard Cohen, Greatest Hits
3) Bob Dylan, The Essential Bob Dylan
4) KD Lang, Hymns of the 49th Parallel
5) Tom Waits, Asylum Years
(in no particular order)

Of course, I could cheat and stuff Springsteen's Ghost of Tom Joad down my bra  (and maybe some Joan Baez and Woody Guthrie)

Psst.... did I get away with it? I hope nobody noticed

It never ceases to amaze me how overrun this board is with Nasal-Whining-Hippy lovers. Maybe you are all deaf. You probably all think TNS sounds good too.

Sorry P, there will be NO nasal whining hippy stuff at the Bristol Meet-up, just for you. I will swap the hippy for an extra Christy Moore CD if it makes you happy

Hey partisan, instead of being an offensive maroon troll you could have provided some meaningful insights!

My list, assuming I can sneak multi CD's into my stash

1. Neil Young, Live Rust
2. Jack Logan, Bulk
3. The Replacements, All for Nothing....and Nothing for All
4. Goo Goo Dolls, Hold Me Up (from their thrash days, actually a great CD)
5. Leonard Cohen, Greatest Hits

which 5 cds?

Post by philo »

this is the second most difficult question to answer in the universe. so here is one more recycled and very sad hippy with her answers to this imponderable. the answer is one that is perfect for today, but tomorrow may well morph into something quite different.....

1. cohen - the essential
2. floyd - either dark side of the moon, the wall or wish you were here depending on state of mind.
3. bach - any - (fodder for my poor lonely soul, marooned on this strangely strange planet)
4. nick drake - way to blue
5. bruchs violin concerto (i think its the one in d) - i defy anyone who enjoys the sound of horse hair scraping over cat gut not to be moved by this one..........
life is the school, love is the lesson.

How charming. Personally i have never made a single personal insult about anyone on this forum, do please go check. Was it this post you found offensive, or some other? Anyway, my post did provide insight, far more than most of the replies here.

Actually, partisan isn't a troll.. has been here with us for ages, and many of us have met and like him - some of us love him - some others.. well.... :--).. it's sort of like Leonard... most of the population who knows of LC either loves him or can't tolerate him.. not much inbetween. So, I stand up here in appreciation of my good friend partisan.

I bet the thing partisan wants least is people standing up for him here... so just to piss him off, I'll stand by Bobbie in her appreciation of him! Which should tell you that while I don't see eye-to-eye to him on a lot of things (not just the nasal whining hippy), he's no troll either...

I'm sure I came to this thread for a reason. Ah, that was it. 5 albums (I'm too old to just call them CDs even though I own probably less than a dozen vinyl LPs). I'm tempted to list Nasal Whining Hippy, The Freewheeling Nasal Whining Hippy, The Times They Are A Changin', Another Side of the Nasal Whining Hippy, and Bringing It All Back Home, but instead...

1. I'm your man/Leonard Cohen
2. Oh Mercy/Bob Dylan
3. Five Leaves Left/Nick Drake
4. Caution Horses/Cowboy Junkies
5. Wish You Were Here/Pink Floyd

5's not enough though! not that the eight you'd get on 'Desert Island Discs' would make it much easier to narrow it down. In particular, not sure whether I'd prefer 'Blood on the tracks' as the Dylan representation, or 'Various Positions' or 'New Skin...' for the Cohen.

Maybe it's just me. I think suggesting that Forum members are deaf, and that the music they enjoy is made by "Nasal Whining Hippies" is an insult.

And after reading p's posts for a long time, there are many instances of writing things to incite, which I believe is one of the definitions of the troll.

I guess I just don't appreciate people who post to incite.
