Here is a link to a 55 minute talk by Harry Freedman, promoting his book, Leonard Cohen, the Mystical Roots of Genius. The book (which I have not read) details the songs Harry has identified has roots in the Bibles and Teachings of the Jewish and Christian Faiths with a particular reference to Leonards feelings about the Holocaust. The talk was really good and very easy to follow whether you are Jewish or not. I will get the book as it sounds really interesting and accessible and will answer a lot of the questions I have always had about this aspect of Leonard's songs.

For anybody who may care about little details like copyright laws, intellectual property rights, etc., please do be aware that Library Genesis is completely illegal, offering pirated (i.e. illegal) copies of books that are still very much under copyright protection. Whoever operates Library Genesis doesn't care that they are stealing (it is stealing, by the way, to ignore copyright laws and provide free copies of books for which one does not hold the rights, and, in all jurisdictions, stealing is illegal), but perhaps a few other people may care. Just FYI.

concerning copyright infringement, theft of intellectual property: a huge subject, as is stealing of any sort, and it's not always as straightforward as one would like - which is why some court cases drag on for days. of course it is wrong to download copyrighted material that has not been paid for, most people know this - particularly those unable to make it to a library or who have little income. on the plus side, it has been claimed that it is mostly creative people who break rules - so there's that

i've heard it said that individuals who seldom do or say anything wrong can be rather dull to have around, though i would beg to differ. to those of us interested in human behaviour, interacting with anyone can be both educational and amusing - especially with an authoritarian who is only able to obey orders!
