Leonard Cohen 2022 calendars available for sale on Amazon websites

I think Cohen collectors may be interested to know that Leonard Cohen 2022 calendars are available for sale on Amazon websites. The Canadian Amazon (www.amazon.ca) has listed 6 Cohen 2022 calendars for sale at the moment:

I bought the first 2 calendars (the two currently sold at $9.99), which are the same in content, different only in the cover photo. One thing that is not right about these two calendars I bought is that they have a quote for each month, but it is not a quote from Cohen's works. The quote on the cover "How can I begin anything new with all of yesterday in me?" is the only exception: It is from "Beautiful Losers." This is a crying shame as Cohen is very witty and quotable. It should be very easy for the publisher of this so-called "Leonard Cohen 2022 official calendar" to find some more interesting quotes by Cohen himself if they are really Cohen fans and work hard to dig into the golden mine of Cohen's works.

As for the 4 other calendars currently sold at around 15.37 Canadian dollars, I have not bought yet. Judging from the sample photos, they probably have the same content or very similar content, though they use different photos for the cover. The French Amazon (www.amazon.fr) has listed 7 Cohen calendars for sale: https://www.amazon.fr/s?k=Leonard+Cohen ... nb_sb_noss, while the British and the American Amazon both have 3 Cohen calendars listed at the moment. If the llinks do not work, simply go to their website and look for "Leonard Cohen calendar."

Hi,

I looked at the calendars on Amazon, and they are all "Independently Published", which means that they are not "official" at all, if by "official", one means sanctioned by those who hold the rights to Leonard's works and photographs. That is most likely why they do not use actual quotes from/by Leonard Cohen, because they'd have to obtain the rights to do so, and would be in legal trouble if they used them without permission. As for the photos, they are all familiar and were likely simply taken from the internet.

By the grammatically poor wording in the descriptions, I'd guess that these calendars were probably made either in China or in another non-English-speaking country.

I seriously doubt if the makers of these calendars "are really Cohen fans" willing to "work hard to dig into the golden mine of Cohen's works" -- more likely, they're just trying to make a buck off of a famous celebrity by producing cheap calendars for which unsuspecting fans will pay good money. The fact that there are several calendars with different covers (apparently made by two different "companies") seems to confirm that this is simply a money-making venture, as fans may buy them all thinking that they are different inside as well.

It is always a good idea to read the fine print, for that may give you a good idea of what you're getting.

You are right in saying that there is nothing "official" going on with these calenders. It's just a way of making money on the legacy of LC for these folks. I do however think ( hope) that they paid copyright fees for the photo;s to the owners

But having said that I must admit that I bought one on the french amazon site

Got the booklet today. Is a bit odd size, smaller than A4 but bigger than A5. It is also printed as a book and therefore not very handy to use as a calendar.
Thin paper and not high quality as was to be expected.

But the photos are nice and it had a calendar for 18 months, so 2022 up to July 2023.
Made some adjustments (drilled a hole in the side ) so we could use it as a family calendar in our kitchen . Lucky I bought two to get free delivery so the second was almost for free, so one will be pristine in the collection

To summarize: it to expensive for what you get but nevertheless nice to have

my computer is connected to the internet. it has an inbuilt calendar that stretches over innumerous years, and permits access to many thousands of photographs of leonard cohen. therefore i am contented, and remain a huge admirer of his work without needing to spend hard-earned money on such an item.

as a long-time student of human behaviour, i am well acquainted with celebrity worship syndrome and the psychology behind pathological completionism. it is important to not allow an interest to become compulsive - so addictive that it becomes obsessional. try to keep a healthy attitude concerning your hobby, and stay mentally balanced. there are a lot of unscrupulous people out there who will happily take your money while exploiting leonard's name.
