i've been a leonard cohen fan for quite a few years but i just recently discovered message boards. i'm twenty three years old and i don't know a person outside of my immediate group of close friends who is familiar with leonard's music with the exception of the occasional "isn't he the dude with the song from that awesome movie with the really deep voice?." i just thought i'd post/read here every so often in an attempt to communicate with other cohen fans...

thanks for your time.

Hi tom. ~

There's nothing wrong with those reasons for posting here, and muc that is right! Welcome to the Forum :D ~ and at least your immediate friends 'know' [does that also mean appreciate?] Leonard's music.

I was surprized to discover message boards myself  . I just saw in your profile that your location is New York. You're rather well placed for attending the Event. Are you going to come so some of us can meet each other? You'll have an incredible time, if you do 8) . That's a promise :D .

If I ever mention Leonard Cohen to anyone, I almost always get the response: "Oh - music to slit your wrists to", together with a laugh to indicate that they're the only person ever to have said such a thing. It used to annoy me rather, but these days I just tend to think that it's their loss...

Hi Rhodes ~

At least those people, to whom you mention Leonard, are aware enough to plagiarize that worn-through comment. All I generally get is a blank, "Who?"

A car salesman [not the one waiting on me] knew him, and had lived in New York [the Bronx, as I recall] ~ I was inclined to want to buy a car from him ~oh, these emotional decisions :? . Fortunately, I thought better of it.

Hi Tom and welcome,

dont worry, youre not alone with this "problem" ;)

Of my friends almost noone knows cohen but at least a friend of my father with whom I often make music in some "open mic" bars is a big fan and initially introduced me to his music... its great playing Suzanne or Thats no way to say goodbye on stage :)

So welcome to the board, I'll hope you have fun...

Cheers,
Arno
