After listening to 'If I can't have you' (which is an old Bee Gees song I think) and loving it from an old Concert, I was thinking which other great songs he could cover.. don't want to hear ' Leonard Cohen sings Irving Berlin etc. but there must be some really great songs which he would make really, really sound 'great'. What do you think?
Not that I don't like Irving Berlin.

Obviously, the Webb Sisters should to do the falsetto "ooh ooh oooooh" parts, but the rest of it in Leonard's voice? Yeah.

We would lose his genuinity, don't you think? The whole idea of what we call Leonard Cohen is that he produces, constructs a new song out of his own concept and experience. I didn't accept his singing of "Be for real" song because it wasn't his, not the lyrics and not the melody, I would rather he stick to his own brands which is a 100% bulls eye to me.
Now wait, I hope he will not sing Bee Gee's "Feel I'm goin' back to San Francisco" Heaven forbid!
(unless he'll sing it personally to you, of course

)

I'd like him to cover "The Wanderer" ...a song by U2, but sung by Johnny Cash!

I would vote for "My Death" (in English) by Jacques Brel.
Scott Walker did a fabulous version many decades ago, but I would love to hear a LC version.
Maybe "Amsterdam" also??

I could almost swear that I'd just answered this question.. but apparently not
After hearing Johnny Cash's versions of the Neil Young songs Pocahontas and Heart of Gold, I'd like to hear Leonard do a Neil song. One of the acoustic ones, of course. One might think that a low-voiced singer singing a song sung originally by the high-pitched and frail Neil Young would sound bad, has to listen to the Johnny Cash ones first!
Maybe Neil and Leonard could do a duet on a Trans / I'm Your Man -inspired song ;D
