A quick update on this thread.

I've just got a copy of the DVD - I haven't had time to watch it all, but I've really enjoyed what I've seen so far. There's plenty of stuff I knew / had previously seen, but, significantly, lots of stuff about LC's influences that I only knew bits about. There's lots of information about Lorca and Beats, and probably loads more but I've only watched about 15 minutes.

It IS unauthorised, but has interviews with many knowledgeable sources such as Ira Nadel, Stephen Scobie and Nigel Williamson, speaking about Leonard in the context of his influences. Really looking forward to watching the rest!

Where did you manage to get a copy of the DVD? All the sites I've looked at, including Amazon, are showing it as released on July 26.

I got a pre-release copy from Pride (it's a long story) - all I can say so far is, it's a buyer. I still haven't watched the rest (sunbathing, World Cup etc. getting in the way) (the least said about the latter the better) but it's on my to-do list for tomorrow.

Mind you, lightasabreeze said she'd ordered Bird On A Wire from the Amazon UK site but I can't find it on there so you can't win 'em all!

Just watched Lonesome Heroes. It's different.. Some bits are on other DVD's but there were some very interesting bits about Lorca and Jaques Brel.
Afterwards I could see how Leonard was influenced by people like Irving Layton.
It is quite a long DVD 110 mins, so good value I thought for a 10.99. (ebay) I will watch it again and also the extra bits which I have not seen yet.

I've had this for a few days, now, and watched the main feature, but not the extras yet. It's interesting. I don't think the quality of the dvd is great - or maybe it's just my computer; dunno. Of course, some parts of it - old stuff on Cohen from many years ago - are bound to be a bit iffy quality, but the new stuff was slightly off-focus - and it can't be a pirate: I got it from Amazon.
However, those criticisms aside, it is interesting, full of of info and clips of people who have influenced Cohen; some I have previously seen, some not, and the experts interviewed were very interesting. It's worth buying, imo.

It is surprising to me, that the Slovak our web-retailers have offered Lonesome Heroes DVD.
Its price is € 20.60, of course, I have already ordered. And I look forward.
