Cohen Art on Display in NYC

Post by dick »

Leonard’s art is on display at NYC exhibition.

Here is link to info.
http://www.apexart.org/exhibitions/eggers.htm

Show is in financial district near ground zero.

This is the second link I’ve followed on the show
http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2008/0 ... 6B48984890

Cohen is in excellent company, with Basquiat, Mamet, Silverstein, Vonnegut, Crumb, Duchamp, etc. in the same show. Second photo link shows “sometimes the hat doesn’t help” – first link displayed “inner sweetness could not be concealed.”

Will try to catch it between now and May 10 at 291 Church Street. I would like to hear from any other New York fans that go to the exhibit. Are there other Cohen pieces on display?

It is a very wonderful display, with good eating places on all sides of the gallery.

Linda and I met Esther and enjoyed 100 plus pieces to view -- five of them by Cohen!

Around the entry corner is "sometimes the hat doesn't help" -- with a Shel Silverstein to the upper left, and a David Mamet the lower right. Then in the biggest room, four LC prints in a commanding position as a quadrant.

Worth a visit friends ... 291 Church Street --- it is free -- Tues-Sat -- 11am to 6pm -- Now thru May 10.

Let's show them how important Leonard is!!

I don't know if this has been posted before, but there is also a book based on that exhibition (I read about it recently in a greek newspaper), published by McSweeney's in September 2009 :

More Things Like This -- Curated by the editors of McSweeney's, this unconventional book explores the intersection of text, humor, and illustration in art created by cartoonists, writers, musicians, and fine artists. A refreshing mixture of high, low, and sideways, the selection features nearly 300 images from dozens of contributors, including David Shrigley, Kurt Vonnegut, Leonard Cohen, Chris Johanson, David Mamet, and many more. Insightful interviews with the artists further illuminate the shared and divergent approaches they take in creating this smart, funny, and engaging work.

Sophia,
Appreciate these links and buying info, but at $20.54 from Amazon, it's pricey, even for this LC fanatic, when he is only alloted a measly 2 pages
Kindest regards,
Mary
