Paula H. ~ The way I see it, the integrity of the reporting really doesn't have anything to do with John's comment on their being no winners, only losers with war. Unless you've simply acknowledged that this idea is not silly, and then returned to your original point and began to consider, from your own perspective, that it was possibly a draw, and that contingent on the bias/unbias of reporting. Not really sure of where you're going with your comment.

I thought Paula meant that we are drawn into the conflict by the reporting, particularly when it is sensationalised. And it is biased as well if TV shows an American soldier tending a wounded child but hides the dead bodies of the child's family.

Stephen ~

You may well have been right in your interpretation, too. Your sentence reminds me of the reported "poster child" for the Iraqi War's impact on the civilian citizens there. He was very seriously maimed, while his 8-month pregnant mother, father, and siblings were all killed by an errant bomb hitting their house. He's now been flown elsewhere for medical treatment.

I think you will find Elizabeth, that he has been taken to Kuwait where he will get decent treatment but absolutely no muffins, because to Victor the spoils, to the victims .....

Thanks for the info, Paula. I couldn't remember which country they'd said. One that had adequate facilities and supplies is all I remembered for sure. Yes, no muffins.....but all the guiltcare money can buy.

I can confirm that Muffin The Mule is coming back onto TV screens. A lot of people may not know that the Lady presenter is a sister of Sir John Mills, the famous actor!

Well, thank you so much Stephen. And a lot of people may not know that Dairy Farmers are going out of businessat a rate in excess of .03 per sq.m per annum in the West Country.

and you talk of muffins! Pass the sick bag please.

No need to be so pessimistic, Dairy Farmer. After all, what are muffins (or bread, or baked potatoes or....or.... no need to go on - the list is endless) without dairy products such as butter and cheese...
and cottage cheese.
And I won't even mention the sweet delights of yoghurt.
Droolingly yours

Vesuvius !

Chow Vesuvius ~

Told you, you had a language problem  .

On an official note, I regret to inform you that the ambassador post you sought was filled long prior to your consideration of same. The delicacy of relations between the U.S. and Italy mandates ambassadors with reading abilities and of sound mind and genuine heart. We already have in place a truly lovely Italian ambassador who has been performing admirably and we expect her to be in that position for decades to come. We do appreciate your interest and encourage you to continue to apply, elsewhere of course, as we don't anticipate any openings. Do keep in mind, as you continue your emissary quest, that it's not polite to beg.

We wish you the best in your future endeavours.

Dear lizzytysh of Human Resources
finally the finer ways of Italian encouragement seem to have arrived in Florida!
Now you encourage our friend Vesuvius the same way he encouraged all of us in the past.
Well done.
Maybe, if some time the post of a Poetry Critic with the Fire Arms Magazine will be available, you might think of sending a Message to the ancient Volcano...

Yours faithfully (etc.)

As the War comes to an end, in many ways the worse problems begin. I don't know if we will get an accurate count of deaths. Perhaps, Iraqis 5,000-10,000? And the Coalition perhaps 500?

But now if you add those who will die from rioting, water shortage, diarreoha, etc. it will surely exceed that.

I do not think that muffins are the answer at all. If a person has been seriously short of food and liquid then he has to be weaned back slowly to ordinary food. Muffins, particularly with jam, are an inappropriate food.

Dear Tom ~

I appreciate your response and excellent suggestion. I have located F.A.M.'s e-mail address and have already forwarded the relevant postings. This method allows me to focus on other, important things while I can simply trust Fire Arms Magazine to do the right thing, according to their own standards. I agree with you that the match appears to be a perfect one. I'm certain, as well, that our dear friend Vesuvius appreciates all of our efforts to assist his becoming gainfully employed.

Street beggars just aren't attractive anywhere, though they do arouse compassion ~ yet some do tend to ridicule. It would be interesting to see Vesuvius's response in that regard, were he on the other side of his own dilemma. In the meantime, he might do well to position himself at the foot of his ancient namesake, with a placard stating, "My name is Vesuvius." In fact, I'll go the extra measure and notify Fire Arms Magazine that when a position with them opens, if they are interested, they may be able to locate him there, absent no eruptions in the interim.

In the meantime, thank you for sharing in my concern for the welfare of this individual.

Thank you for writing.

Dear Liam ~

Along the lines of muffins and strawberry jam for those in need of food, the efforts to do so in the past have been well known for the dropping of food packets fully indigestible for the citizenry of the receiving nation. The packets have contained processed foods that are all but indigestible by those whose diets are already fraught with same. They are valid concerns which you express and I share them all.
