Hi Teratogan

I suppose it is all a matter of opinion really but even when I was young and this was really really popular in Ireland (land of the sentimental song) I remember thinking that it was twaddle. For a lot of people it might be in their all time favourite songs. If my husband outlives me and wants to extract revenge I suppose he could play this at my funeral and watch my coffin spin.

The song featured in a movie I saw recently (Breakfast on Pluto - excellent film) and I am ashamed to say that although I hate the song I remembered all the lyrics.

Perhaps somebody should start a thread with "songs you know you hate but happen to know the lyrics of"

Julia, Seasons in the Sun is another one that was really popular and I probably know 80% of the lyrics to, I agree it was terrible. But Feelings, yeah, that was terrible. And what about "You're once, twice, three times a lady" that lyric always annoyed me.

I wonder if anybody here has dared to say which LC lyric they dislike the most? I'm new and don't want to rock the boat but there is one verse in a song that I really don't like.

Seasons in the Sun was only terrible because Terry Jacks (formerly of the Poppy Family - anyone remember Which Way You Goin' Billy- 1971?) cut the translation of the Jacques Brel lyrics to bits.
The original lyric had the twist -
Goodbye MIchelle my trusted wife
without you I'd have had a lonely life,
you cheated lots of times but then
I forgave you in the end
for your lover was my friend.
......with your lover everywhere,
think of me, I'll be there!

(All that from memory ...way hay..old age my ass)
Rod McJuen did a good version as of course did Brel in French

What about Sugar Sugar (yuck)... sickerly Sweet...
Sugar, ah honey honey
You are my candy girl
And you've got me wanting you.
Honey, ah sugar sugar
You are my candy girl
And you've got me wanting you.
I just can't believe the loveliness of loving you
(I just can't believe it's true)
I just can't believe the one to love this feeling to.
(I just can't believe it's true)
Ah sugar, ah honey honey
You are my candy girl
And you've got me wanting you.
Ah honey, ah sugar sugar
You are my candy girl
And you've got me wanting you.
When I kissed you, girl, I knew how sweet a kiss could be
(I know how sweet a kiss can be)
Like the summer sunshine pour your sweetness over me
(Pour your sweetness over me)
Sugar, pour a little sugar on it honey,
Pour a little sugar on it baby
I'm gonna make your life so sweet, yeah yeah yeah
Pour a little sugar on it oh yeah
Pour a little sugar on it honey,
Pour a little sugar on it baby
I'm gonna make your life so sweet, yeah yeah yeah
Pour a little sugar on it honey,
Ah sugar, ah honey honey
You are my candy girl
And you've got me wanting you.
Oh honey, honey, sugar sugar ..
You are my candy girl ..
Haven't had time to read all five pages so if it's been done already, sorry..... (day late and a dollar short but what the hey)

I lit a thin green candle
To make you doo wah diddy doo
The room just filled up with mosquitos
They thought that my doo wah diddy doo'd.

Ah, the Archies. Bubblegum pop at its most bubbliest. Nothing tops that song in my opinion as far as bubblegum pop goes.
