Tchoc put me onto this thread, which I have just started reading through. Just wanted to copy a few quotes I agree with:
Sylvia said:
When it (the emotional body) is conditioned by past experiences and, even worse, by denials as in forgetting, suppressing, repressing feelings, then we can lose the energy in it that is given to help us live.

I think that emotional intelligence is under estimate in regard of intellectual intelligence and that it makes people out of balance. As our societies are made of us, the consequence are...

I'm... ambivalent. Part of me is very practical and down-to-earth; but part of me sees what you are saying. Sort of. I don't know that I ascribe it to any 'god' thing, though. (I'm an atheist, pure and simple, after giving the matter deep consideration over many years.)

As the emotional states improve of course you will be able to remove depression.
I remember reading or hearing Leonard saying that he realized the source of his depression was that he was thinking about himself too much. AH HA yes releasing the grasp of self is very important
I agree with all those quotes.
Sylvia said:
How can you think you are not a mystic and you are liking music from Leonarch Cohen ... you must be a closet mystic ...
I like that, Sylvia. I think I must be a ‘closet mystic’

.
But I also agree with Fljots:
Can I say... perception of beauty comes with the species. I don't think it needs a god.

Comparitive religion is very interesting, as long as your karma does not run over my dogma I am happy to listen. All religion speak of love and compassion, respect for others. There are just different ways of presenting the materials.
That’s true. Athiests, who locate their true nature, are also naturally compassionate.

As I grow, Sylvia, I grow into G-d. That all encompassing being that dwells inside me, and out. The beauty of G-d is that you can divide zero into Him/Her and get a result. It is Mystery. It is Love. It is Creation.
I believe that when we locate our humanity within, and experience, express and share the tender emotions of sadness, joy and compassion, then that is a big part of what is godly/spiritual.

the very essence of 'healing' a wounded soul is by mourning. You can use books, religion, music or psychoanalysis to help but mourning or grieving is the only ticket home.
I agree with that, Boss.

Rage and being mad like hell is a step of grief. In this regard one could compare feelings to a child, one has to take great care about, but make it clear that this is not the child that rules the house. For example one can admit that one would be very pleased, to, let say, scratch the new car of an ex with a set of keys, without having to pass to the act, and without a feeling of guilt for having these kind of thoughts and feelings. It is difficult to recognize those kind of emotions because they are considered asocial.
Yes, we need to recognise and express all our emotions in order to feel centred. We don’t have to take our anger out on a person, or be destructive. Taking it out on a punch-bag or screaming whilst alone in the car is just as effective.
No time to write more just now, and I haven't even finished reading to the end. Interesting thread. Thanks.
Diane.
