Hello All,

Appropos of nothing, I was just listening to a session of 'Canada Reads' which I touched on some months ago when the CBC Radio Nework was putting it together. A bunch of artistes picking and defending a Canadian book of thier choosing. Each panel member gets a certain time allotment to make their case for their book (Beautiful Losers was out in the first round).

Anyway, what I found interesting was the group dynamic. These were intelligent, well-read people with differing points of view. They defended their choice of book with passion, and in doing so had to point out what they thought were poor examples in the area of the 'competition'. There were pointed barbs, light to medium debate that rose in intensity from time to time, but over all, they were laughing and just agreed to disagree. It sounded like they did that a lot.

That's what I'm doing right now besides having a sandwich with cheese/lettuce and tomato.

Bye now,
Linda.

bee wrote:Tom, after attacking me with venom on my every post, now you calling me to be in peace? You are quite a manipulator, when there is hard time to look your usual "good", aren't you?
As far as I know I was answering Paulas question addressed to me, when you came in with your mockery and clumsy twists, which you are justifying as "irony" well, it is indeed, you have to do some more training at that , in order to come out at least with some elegance.
Oh bee, if the flu hadn't finally caught me, I'd jump in on the way you're twistin' the truth. Now I just say I came in when you were insulting people past, present and absent. The venom was all yours

Peace now.

TEACHING THE APE TO WRITE

They didn't have much trouble
teaching the ape to write poems:
first they strapped him into the chair
then tied his pencil around his hand
(the paper had already been nailed down).
Then Dr.Bluespire leaned over his shoulder
and whispered into his ear:
"You look like a god sitting there.
Why don't you try writing something?"

Oh bee, where is the love? :(

We have christians killing one another all over the world. We have muslims killing one another all over the world. We have religion being highjacked by articulate, manipulative, power-greedy men, who send others out to fight.
It isn't the religion that is at fault. Religion in its purest form is beautiful, uplifting, life-changing, unselfish and truly rewarding. That holds true for all major religions. The problem is that those with ulterior motives, vested interests, inferiority complexes, arrogance and bullying personalities, in any mix of those characteristics, have always moulded less assertive people into tools that could be used as extensions of dogmatic mind-sets.
Paula introduced us all to a thread about spirituality and the discussion centred on that aspect of our real world, real life experiences and viewpoints. Religion entered the discussion and we had an examination of what has to be a very personal 'take' on our individual lives. Somewhere along the way, love got nudged out, and THAT, is what happens in all religions.
This isn't a posting about my personal views on religion. The facts surrounding all religions follow a very similar pattern. I had hoped to see more discussion on the nub of the thread, but sidelining issues have muddied the waters. We all fall into the trap of going off at a tangent. It was just pleasing to me to read about Paula's experience and the thoughts surrounding the heart of the matter as it progressed. :)

Joe please, please come back  I do not want to be the only declared witch over here

Insanitor I meant this :

"The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
--Albert Einstein"

I'll finish here with this, for now! 8)

"And he took you up in his aeroplane,
which he flew without any hands,
and you cruised above the ribbons of rain
that drove the crowd from the stands.
Then he killed the lights in a lonely Lane
and, an ape with angel glands,
erased the final wisps of pain
with the music of rubber bands."
***
"He can love the shape of human beings, the fine and twisted shapes of the heart. It is good to have among us such men, such balancing monsters of love."

Paula introduced us all to a thread about spirituality and the discussion centred on that aspect of our real world, real life experiences and viewpoints. Religion entered the discussion and we had an examination of what has to be a very personal 'take' on our individual lives.
Byron- Byron-exactly right, it was most beautiful thread so far-she had her doubts, she had her skepticism, but she had her mind opened to many possibilities-we all have experienced that. I was happy to share my views on the subject, since I have devoted big part on my life to that, have experienced things beyond my own belief.
If I were having tea with cookies in Mr.tom or somebody else's sitting room, letting the crumbs drop down on his mama's carpet, I would gladly accept the annoyance with my bad manners and I would apologize (not that i would behave that way at the first place) but I would give my apologies, even if that were not true, however, if I would like to express my opinions on subject, if I were to talk with substance out of my knowledge of the things I know, that is a totally different story. Why should I tolerate the harassment by somebody whose opinion happen to be popular and well liked? Dear Byron, I do not see how lies would manifest love? Sure, if I would lie and tell, oh sure, "you mr.x&y are so very right" just to make him feel good-out of Christian love, to spare the poor devils ego, well, in my present days and age I have no desire of doing so, because I think there is more evil to that, as one would think there is.
Anyway, if somebody is not OK with my posts, they sure can complain to Jarkko, he can kick me out in a moment, but if I write something which is not appreciated by somebody, that would be their problem and I do not need being harassed after my every post, somebody being extremely rude to me, than to be told to be "in peace" or in what ever condition.
If something is stimulating me, I would write and respond, if not- I leave it be, I do not write about subjects out of my competence-like poetry or music. I can surely enjoy it, but I do not have expierenece to analyze it or to be in any kind of serious or not so serious discussion.
That's all Byron, perhaps I should've left the LC board anyhow, soon will be a year I've been hanging around here. One has to observe the signs, perhaps for my own good,
take care

Honey Bee, please don't go. First, irony is an art that is far from being appreciated all the time by everybody, sometimes frankness, even rude, is a breath of fresh air. Second, short-circuits happen regularly in any communications, that is not such a "big deal" until somedody does a big deal for nothing with this. Third, you are not always tender (you can hit, lady) and got the normal feed back accordingly - it surprising that you are surpise by the waves that you are doing. Forth, there are so many reasons for you to stay, that the list would be to long.

Few... this subject of afterlife brings us to heaven and to hell.

A human being can never claim to have the answer. Everything we can try to do is asking the right questions. Tentatively we're allowed, though, to humbly venture our opinion. The temptation to act as though we have the one and only true answer is always there, and that's part of the human weakness.

Dear bee,

don't go. This is free speech territory, and I don't think anyone ever ran up to the site admin to cry in his lap "Oh, Jarkko, I've been so rudely insulted, please ban the contributor that's known as this-or-that-nick."

Just accept that you will be able to raise a storm, and then weather it. If my irony hurt, I apologize.

And now I'm ready to go back to bed.

The zebra in the zoo
Is suffering from flu.
This writer, too.

Or in the words of William Shakespeare (King Lear, III,4, line 91): "Poor Tom’s a-cold."

bee, I have some eccentric views. I have been attacked for them. I am still here.
You have some eccentric views. You have been attacked for them. Stay here.
It's what makes us all human, individual and unique. It would be a pretty boring party if everyone brought the same red wine and the same record to play.

Hum... unicity is not always boring (it would be like the same thing same time all the time otherwise, no?) particularly if I refer to a teddy bear with only one tooth.

Tom-suffering-from-flu, warm toughts, if you can rest a lot, in any case drink a lot (of water of course) and have C vit. into some form or another. Cheers and take care.

T, I'll have you know that Albert's tooof is a genetically enhanced, lazer powered, state of the Art, Warhol creation. Albert has been offered more jars of honey than you can shake a pooh stick at.
On his last Lecture Tour of Aldebron IV, the inhabitants droooled for aeons at the sight and site of Albert's medically refurbished molar.
Boring, is not a word used in Albert's vocabulary. In fact, Albert doesn't use any vocabulary. 8) He doesn't have to. He's omnipresenticatedable. Try saying that wiv only one tooof.

Actually, I find the thought of teeth medically and artistically refurbished in order to contained some speakers that would do all the job, very refreshing : just be there and smile quietly, no need anymore to use all those muscles required for the langage (and like if it was not enough, they are different from a langage to another).

(I, right now, allow myself too much breaks : I really have to disapear, for a while - see you)

A musical mouth. How lovely :) . Tchocolatl ~ I knoooooooow you have your reasons; and well-defended ones, no doubt. However, I must say that I do not see you in the way of your selected avatar. Fortunately, I love cows, regardless. Specially cool ones with heart sunglasses.

Yes, now that I'm half-blind from reading your [ahem] note; yes, see you, too.
