Real[sic]Alan he say I've been to concerts all over the world & never felt any need to check out more than (a) how I get there (b) where I stay & (c) which is the best bar
I would have to concur totally with the comment above, except for c) I would put the best place to eat . . .
I think I have managed to get a Sunday lunch booking at McNeans Bistro which means I may not be at Lissadell in time to join RealAlan quaffing champagne. I feel a certain obligation to join him, not that he has invited me yet, because at the rate he is upsetting folk on this thread, there will be no one else to drink with him.

just to let you know.... aer arann are having another 'happy hour' tomorrow between 11am - 2pm. (happy hours in Ireland are measured by the country mile!). So if you're still looking for a flight to the west log onto www.aerarann.com . On the park & ride idea, maybe Sligo has a Tesco or Dunnes outside the centre of town and the buses could use their carparks for pick up. This would also provide parking for the numerous cars. Just a thought.... Oh and one other thing, MY TICKETS ARRIVED TODAY !!!!!!!! :D

Aer Arran is great... just be aware that Donegal Airport is a long way from Donegal Town (at least an hours drive), and there are no bus services.... it's a wonderful little airport if you're hiring a car, but if you're reliant on public transport... well, there isn't any!

This is serious query!

Is walking to the venue really out of the question? This was dismissed early on as too far, but I am wondering about walking to the venue if the day is nice (ho-ho) and getting a shuttle bus back maybe.

If it really is 6 miles from the centre that would be what 2-3 hours depending on pace? I could march past all the chaos and congestion and stroll in about 5pm to the venue I am thinking. But is it 6 miles? I think some people said it was 8 miles perhaps a bit far. Clarification on this welcome

A walking route map I would be prepared to shell out for if the business people produced one. Are there any stop off points at all on that route to eat/drink/take a break?

Suggestion on shuttle buses would be to have some of the returns and deliveries starting about a mile or half mile from the venue to avoid the total chaos likely at the scene - I would be very happy with a half hour stroll each way myself, but obviously this would have to be made clear

My ticket arrived today, hooray http://rospan.blogspot.com/2010/05/woo-hoo.html - and the ones I am selling also.

My suggestion is similar to jeney's...
All concert goers should avail of the shuttle buses from Sligo town and the surrounding area.
Leave the driving to the professionals, who know the narrow roads, insuring steady traffic,
I think it would be wonderful if there were no cars or parking at Lissandell and everyone had to take a shuttle bus. Think of the laughter, song and conversations on those buses if all 10,000 used them.
I think getting there will be easy but this may make it easier after the concert to get all the people out and back to Sligo Town.

I can hardly wait and am so excited to be coming to Sligo and seeing the friends I know and to meet all of you I don't know yet.
Whatever happens its all going to work out and be fun!

Thanks Carlow Mike and thanks real alan! I have enjoyed the banter between the 2 of you!
See you all soon...
Les (Mutti) woman of many names.... ;-) 8) ;-)

rpan »This is serious query!
It is eminently walkable from Sligo, but if memory serves (I am not from the area and have only been about three times in my lifespan which is for a brief millisecond the same as the number of posts I have made to the Forum) it would involve walking for the main part along what in Ireland is termed an N [National] route which would be very busy as it is a holiday weekend as well as Leonard weekend. I have just ordered the two Ordnance Survey maps which cover the area and I will peruse them later and see if I can find a route for you which might take in quieter roads.
This is a serious response! Look out for a boat trip.
I think this would be the most practical and fun way to get from the town to the venue. If anyone enterprising is at work it would be a lovely trip from the quays at Sligo across the bay to Lissadell. In the eighteenth century Sligo used to be an important and thriving port but as I understand it, it is fairly moribund as a commercial port these days.

The B&B we are staying at is a few miles beyond Lissadell and if the tide is right apparently you can walk from it to the venue!

Woohoooo, I think a boat trip over to Lissadel is a fantastic idea - we wouldnt have to worry about any sheep, cows, hens, ducks, goat, penguins etc. blocking those winding roads!

Btw, did I mention my ticket arrived yesterday?? ;-) :D :D :D
