Ahhh ~ to see 55 again ~ in another lifetime, I guess. There's always something special about the double numbers.

Belated birthday greetings I hope you enjoyed your special day.
I certainly felt plenty of aches after struggling to keep up to reach the top of the "mountain" on the monastery walk on Hydra. It took me a few days to recover normal feeling in my legs
My thanks go to Linmag's friend Mark (a non-Cohen fan) who stayed with me on the final ascent, and to Liverpool Ken, who kept me company on the downhill trek. Ken is still holidaying on other remote Greek islands, lucky devil

Dear Margaret,
Monasterys are always plopped on the top of the highest points in every country which encourages religion/tourism. Mt. Baldy is, of course, an exception.
My theory is that, rather than attempting to get closer to G*d, the monastics sussed out the pattern of global warming hundreds of years before the current forecasts of future flooding.
When the ice-caps melt we will all seek refuge in the highest places:then the monks will be in command. Bed and breakfast?....$1000, transport?....an ark costs extra...Noah the boatman will ferry you home, if the price is right.
Sometimes the best thing about reaching high places is sheer pleasure of getting back down in one piece.
