everything in his songs is absolutely amazing-the melody,the lyrics,the emotion,the sound,the voice,...,...,.....
but most of all i`m fond of the deep spirit of his songs, every single song is like a "personality" with own feelings ond convictions, every single feeling in his songs is very unique, yet so common...

So truly said, magneticcry....Leonard and his songs and music are synergy at its finest. When parts that comprise the whole are so incredible, the synergistic effect is even more magnified. His songs aren't just songs, but unique experiences.

Right, Georges. I agree. However, I meant experience in the sense of the listening being an [the] experience in itself, not the topic matter of the songs. Or, did you mean we can all relate to the experience of the experiencing? Hmmm

. Getting convoluted here

For the first time I listened to him, I think it was the quality of him voice. I was simply hypnotised --->

. Of course, now that I've learned the lyrics, his music has even more power over me.

Alaxandra,
It was the same for me.
For the first time I heard him i was also liked his music for his voice. When I began to notice the lyrics, the music became even better

Don't think I can write as elequantly as you lot but here goes, about 12 years ago I was really into the goth scene and was hooked on The Sisters of Mercy. When you like a band you like to know how they got their name. After reading that Andrew Eldritch had taken the name from the Len song I become curious, my freind's dad had a copy of Songs of Leonard Cohen and after that I became hooked. So really I have my dodgy music past to thank for many years of Len's music.
Leonard is such a unique artist that is often misunderstood - people often say it makes you want to cut your wrists - that always makes me laugh as I feel they are the ones who are missing out. Little do they understand that Len has helped many people through very dark periods of their lives. He has certainly touched me in a way that no other artist could!

They always used to advertise him in a shop near where I lived with "free razor blade with each album"
So you are not a Goth anymore?
