I have just learned that John Reynolds of POD ( John Reynolds is the man credited with bringing Leonard to Kilmainham in 2008 and now to Sligo in 2010) has awarded discoversligo the Contract to work with POD & Robbie Butler on the traffic management plan.

As far as I know, those travelling by car will have car parks available nearby but I am waiting on news regarding this.

Heading off for Sligo now :D
My offer of pictues may now be redundant as musicmania is doing such a great job with his camera,
but if I get to picture anything unusual I will be glad to share.
Big thanks to Carlowmike for arranging accommodation and a tour for us which will allow access to the venue.
I will at least try to seek out information on the parking arrangments near Lisadell.

Because in earlier Posts I promoted transport by taxi to the Concert Venue as a good option,
I feel it neccessary to point out that the following statement has been issued by Traffic Management regarding taxi transport to the Concert Venue.

Any coaches as well as taxis, i.e. those not chartered to Discover Sligo, will use a drop off point at nearby Carney village from where passengers will be shuttled to Lissadell by minibus shuttle service as the roads are too narrow to cope with a surge of coaches and taxis. This shuttle service from the drop off point will probably cost a couple of euro each way.

Priority Coaches will operate the coach service to bring people directly to Lissadell. The service has a dedicated access route free from all other traffic and has dedicated parking on site just a few hundred yards from the performance area and seating. Extra coaches will be brought on stream after the concert to allow as efficient a departure from Lissadell as we can achieve.

However, the key to the success of this system is pre-booking. We need to allocate enough coaches to each departure point well in advance and it will be impractical to have an extra coach load of people who haven’t booked waiting at any hotel – so Forum members should book as soon as possible to guarantee their coach seat and to help us make the system work well for everyone’s benefit.

Futher details appear on the Concert link provided on the Post at the top of this page,
However people will still have the option to avail of the taxi service, as long as they know they will be dropped off at Carney village. ;-)
[Added 1st July 2010, Please note that following a visit to Sligo by jeney, we have learned that this directive regarding limit to taxi service will be appealed to Sligo County Council next week. See 7 Posts down, ]

Ok people here is a link to the photos you have all being waiting for!!! Drumcliff followed by Lissadell House Gardens. See the comments on some pics for explantion of what they are. When you see the one of where Leonards stage will be, on the left hand side at the concert we will have a view of Benbulben Mountain and the House will be on our right. They have picked a stunning location and are very excited about the concerts. I had a smile on my face when they kept mentioning the Leonard gigs and not menioning Westlife! :D
Thanks so much to Carlowmike for helping set up this for me especially now that no one will be able to enter as it is being completely shut off!

I said all along that the Westlife concert was really only a test run for the main attraction on Saturday and Sunday
in order to ensure that the Traffic Plan and other facilities will be well tried and well tested by the Westies before we have to partake in same 8) .
Great pictures musicmania, thanks for sharing ;-) .

Hi musicmania,

Your photos are wonderful and some are truly excellent!! Lissadell has beautiful grounds and it's exciting to see where we'll all be in less than 4 weeks! If some of the shots are of the roads into and out of the area, they are indeed rather narrow and I can see why traffic management has become so vital. Thank you, thank you!! :D

Thanks again musicmania.
I had a few more requests for admission to Lissadell House and grounds but
as work is now commencing on erecting various structures on the venue site
the area is now regarded as a "work site" and comes under Health and Safety regulations.
Insurance is also an issue so from today Lissadell and the Concert site will be closed to the public.
I hope jeney enjoyed her day there yesterday, looking forward to her car-parking report  .

Hi Mike, my names Daryl Ewing and I run the boat charters which will be dropping people to the beach at Lisadell (right in front of the house itself). I will have my larger vesssel dropping crew onto my smaller vessel, which should be able to drop people right onto the beach itself from the channel access in front of the house. I am doing this as I know it will be hassle for 10,000 people to get down the road by Drumcliff (as you know yourself)!
Can you confirm will there be a path available for ticketholders to access the gig from this side, and is there security I need to liase with?
Sorry Daryl and also to the "seafaring Members of the Leonard Cohen Forum" but access to the Concert via boat will not be allowed. :(

Thank you carlowmike for the arrangements you made for me in Sligo,
I got a great reception and was treated to a grand tour of the area.
CAR PARKING:
I was told that there is a designated car park on the north side of Lisadell, within walking distance of the concert site and another in nearby Oxfield.
it is intended that several other adjoining fields will be open for parking.
TAXI SERVICE:
Of importance is the fact that the taxi drivers and cab companies intend to challenge the idea that they have to drop passengers off in Carney village,
they will be demanding the right right to drop passengers off at the site entrance.
They claim that they should be able to deliver fares as near as possible to the concert and be provided with a pick up point to collect fares following the concerts.
Representatives of the taxi firms involved will be meeting with representatives of the Sligo County Council early next week to resolve the issue.
I hope this information will help clarify matters.

I am glad to hear their is a meeting planned to sort out the priority coach to Lissadell vs the taxi drivers
as this doesn't seem fair that all the business goes to one company.
I see that the trip one way is 11E with Discover Sligo on the priority coaches.
I had thought it was return but on their site if you only book from Lissadell to Sligo its 11 E and same with the other direction.
Look forward to hearing what happens after the meeting.
Thanks Carlow Mike for keeping us posted...
Mutti ;-)
