I think we've had this sort of discussion before. Perhaps if there's a thread that covers various aspects (not everything is one-dimensional you know) then posts could be divided into several pieces and then distributed amongst various forums, complete with cross-references, so that people could only read the complete post by going into each forum. Wouldn't that be fun.

It seems to me people start shouting Politics Forum when they hear a view with which they disagree.

Vicomte wrote:OK, I think it is "criminal" (try not to be hung up on the word "criminal" as being used here in the normal used sense of the word and perhaps deplorable was the word I should have used) as not to be able not to speak of Bush how you want, for or against. I believe Bono is fully entitled to give his views, just as anyone else should be allowed to. If you or anyone else do not like it, too bad, then don't support (or even dislike) Bono if you feel that way.

And as for "take something for your Bush Derangement Syndrome" that really is a very stupid thing to say to someone who was merely supporting free speech for Bono.

Edit:
I really don't want to talk about politics, especially on this thread. I think he should have been able to speak his mind as he wished, you don't. I like to keep my politics private, more so on this Forum. You are wasting your time if you hoped you could turn it in to a Republican Vs Democrats slanging match. So please go argue your politics with someone who gives a monkeys.
Saying that it's criminal not to criticise Bush is definitely a sign that you have Bush Derangmenet Syndrome

You seem to be confusing the difference between saying someone can't say something and shouldn't say something. This thread included comments about Bono as a person, so what's your problem. All I said was that I used to support Bono, but I don't any more, and explained why.

I do however like your comment "You are wasting your time if you hoped you could turn it in to a Republican Vs Democrats slanging match." Very flouncy and dramatic.

What part of "So please go argue your politics with someone who gives a monkeys" did you fail to get
I guess it all started for me sometime around Christmas 1967 and now, goodness me, it's.........2018 and over fifty years later.
No one ever listens to me. I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record.

Your comment, and arrogance, are clear. Also clear is that you don't get to decide what I say.

Be my guest, say you what you want.

I can only repeat, I really don't give a monkeys about your abusive manner, it's water off a ducks back. So you will need to seek elsewhere in your obvious need to rant and rave about anything.

"Bono cried over Cohen"? Just imagine how he would have cried if he had suffered the compression!

Unlike you Nelson knew he was ignoring what he wanted to ignore.

With people like you it's worth getting back to first principles. What I said was that I supported Bono when he was criticised about his humanitarian efforts, until he became political by attacking Bush. You then came in with the suggestion that it would criminal not to criticise Bush.

And now you bleat away hypocritically about "abusive manner".

Personally, I feel that all of Vicomte's comments have been measured and quite within the realm of being polite. efc...you, on the other hand, thrive on confrontation. Your political views do not belong on this thread. You appear to be trolling, but of course, to you it is simply setting the record straight. Go away....none of us need your self-righteous pretense...

Stick to the political thread. You are most at home there, and that is fine. These threads are for those who truly appreciate Leonard, and who, deep within, hold to the same principles as Leonard. You, my dear, do NOT. If you can convince me otherwise...I and many others await your response.

Freedom of speech is our right, but those who may feel their's is the ONLY way (whether right or left) should keep their comments on the political thread...that is why it exists.

ps...go ahead...you will now slightly tear into me....attempt to criticize, demean, and belittle me, as most of "you" people do, but that's okay! I'm with Vicomte.....

I was enjoying reading this thread... and then it started to all go a bit pear shaped - and then I read this bit...

Agrreeeeed!! Thankyou Ladydi...
It seems there is a motion that should be carried (if only) - I visit the politics part of the forum on occasion, but for certain people it is a very useful cupboard - or would be - if they would just bleedin well stay in it

I would say lets all have a vote on it- but that would be highly hypocritical of me I am sure...

Sorry to interject btw

Bono is totally and purely a self promoting egotistical narcissist.

He jumps on every and any bandwagon to promote himself, be it the poor, destitute or association with other artists (is there any artist he has not praised / wanted to join him in his self possessed and created hallowed ground?). I am embarassed that he is Irish and worms himself into every position (including unfortunately the LC DVD which he totally spoils for me)

He has none of the humility or character of LC.

His tears can only be tears for himself seeing the adulation for LC from others and desiring this great artistry and recognition for himself.

This is a thread about Bono's reaction to Leonard which, not surprisingly, included people's opinions about Bono. My comment had a political angle but it was still my opinion about Bono, and in context. Also my comment was factually correct, whereas Vicomte came up with the silly suggestion that it is criminal not to criticise Bush (that's opinion not fact btw), thereby upping the ante. And you, as much as anyone, have kept the issue alive with your constant carping. Even if you're right, and I don't agree that you are, why the fuss. Getting all agitato over my post here doesn't make sense on it's merits. The answer of course you don't like my political views, just like the people in the Judy Collins thread in Other Music.

Your comments remind me when my post in the Concerts forum about the crowd's reaction to the "Democracy is coming to the USA" line was shunted off to Everything Else (before the Politics forum was born) notwithstanding the fact that the crowds reaction was clearly a part of the concert, the concert was the whole point of my post after all. Not only that, the moderator (Tim) had the gall to alter the heading of my post to reverse what I said. It turned out that Tim had a different political philosophy to me - note the pattern. The absurdity was reflected in the fact that posts looking favourably at the crowd's reaction to the line were left in situ, ie. in the Concerts forum. Oh, the perils of micro-management or, to be more precise, selective micro-mamagement, and rather creepy.

And posting in Politics is easier said than done. A while ago, and after I had not posted for a while, I started three threads on separate issues. Some moderator (because of course these people normally hide their behind a veil of secrecy), amalgamated all three threads in indiscriminate fashion, making one combined incoherent thread.

There are bound to be elements of overlap, a point I made in my last post to you:

"I think we've had this sort of discussion before. Perhaps if there's a thread that covers various aspects (not everything is one-dimensional you know) then posts could be divided into several pieces and then distributed amongst various forums, complete with cross-references, so that people could only read the complete post by going into each forum. Of course you have ignored that post. Instead you just start over, as though I hadn't said anything. Anyway if you can't be bothered to respond to a central point then......

Your comments "Go away....none of us need your self-righteous pretense [sic]..." and "These threads are for those who truly appreciate Leonard, and who, deep within, hold to the same principles as Leonard. You, my dear, do NOT. If you can convince me otherwise...I and many others await your response." are not arrogant and self-righteous, or hypocritical at all are they. You seem to assume that everyone thinks like you, a very bold claim indeed. And apparently I need to remind you that I'm just as much a member as you. And why the the "Go away", aren't I allowed to respond to your criticism of me - not in your world apparently.

We have to be Leonard clones do we. And who says my principles are different to Leonard's. Does Leonard approve of what you and your ilk are up to. Just think, I could post here about what Leonard's views are on your views/my posting here. Whatever, what's clear to me is that Leonard is far more likely to be more tolerant and open-minded than you, to a very considerable extent.

If I may I'll end by summarising an ironic and contradictory aspect of your position. You criticise me for raising a political point, and say you're with Vicomte, but make no criticism of Vicomte for being happy to participate in, and indeed escalate, said political point. I'm glad you're with Vicomte.
