Just passing through and caught up with this. Can I endorse Lizzytush's Loreena Mckennitt suggestion (and add her version of "The Coventry Carol"). Good compilation but missing *the* Christmas song. Dar Williams and "The Christians And The Pagans".

"The Coventry Carol" isn't, is it, Mike? Or is it ~ now :D ? If not, I second it! Wow ~ "The Christians and the Pagans " ~ now that sounds interesting 8) ! Pretty soon, you'll be able to label this, "The Largest Christmas Compilation Ever!!!"

Have you discovered that you're able to download Loreena's songs that Big Al and I have suggested? Hey, Big Al......stay awhile.....until the night is over  .

Sorry folks. When I say I'm just passing through, I mean just that so there I was gone.
Anyway: Yes Byron, I'm the biker. I assume that's info courtesy of Lizzie M? Hope she's well as I haven't heard from her for ages and I lost all my contacts.
No Lizzytush, don't know what you mean unless it's about iron horses which motorbikes are rareley called over here.

And since some of you appear not to know the song:

The Christians and the Pagans
© Dar Williams

Amber called her uncle, said "We're up here for the holiday,
Jane and I were having Solstice; now we need a place to stay."
And her Christ-loving uncle watched his wife hang Mary on a tree,
He watched his son hang candy canes all made with Red Dye No. 3.
He told his niece, "Its Christmas Eve, I know our life is not your style,"
She said, "Christmas is like Solstice, and we miss you and its been awhile."

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table,
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able,
And just before the meal was served, hands were held and prayers were said,
Sending hope for peace on earth to all their gods and goddesses.

The food was great, the tree plugged in, the meal had gone without a hitch,
Till Timmy turned to Amber and said, "Is it true that you're a wtich?"
His mom jumped up and said, "The pies are burning," and she hit the kitchen,
And it was Jane who spoke, she said, "It's true, your cousin's not a Christian,"
"But we love trees, we love the snow, the friends we have, the world we share,
And you find magic from your God, and we find magic everywhere,"

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table,
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able,
And where does magic come from? I think magic's in the learning,
'Cause now when Christians sit with Pagans only pumpkin pies are burning.

When Amber tried to do the dishes, her aunt said, "Really, no, don't bother."
Amber's uncle saw how Amber looked like Tim and like her father.
He thought about his brother, how they hadn't spoken in a year,
He thought he'd call him up and say, "It's Christmas, and your daughter's here."
He thought of fathers, sons and brothers, saw his own son tug his sleeve, saying,
"Can I be a Pagan?" Dad said, "We'll discuss it when they leave."

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table,
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able,
Lighting trees in darkness, learning new ways from the old, and
Making sense of history and drawing warmth out of the cold.

Hi BigAl ~

The  'joke' had to do with your being from Saddleworth  . Interesting, I've never heard bikes called that, either [iron horses]. I love that song.....what the true Christmas spirit is about :D . By the way, what I thought must've been a typo the first time around, but seeing it again, apparently isn't, my name is spelled with a y, rather than a u  .

Hello BigAl. I met Lizzie Madder at the Gloucester cohenites get together. But we didn't discuss bikers.
I got your interest from your script in the Gallery. I too enjoy the pleasure of PTWs and the fun of staying vertical and avoiding gravel rash. 8)
I think lizzytysh was refering to 'saddleworth' and hence the remark about you not having heard that reference before. I have the same name as a famous newsman and often get the same old remarks about my name from people who always come out with the same things. It was that sort of thing which lizzzie was refering to.
What wheels? :)

Hi Paal/Paul ~

From the little you've said, that sounds like an important song to include.
