It's wonderful to see you becoming so active Maria. There is a wealth of information to go through here, isn't there?

I've been browsing this great forum since the first Sligo concert - there has been so much to discover and I thank everyone for the many treats I've been enjoying. I first tuned into Leonard's songs and poetry and prose and poetry in the early 70s but since then he only came into my life intermittently (hard to believe) until I went to a Dublin concert in 2009.
Now I'm nurturing a full-blown addiction in a financially irresponsible way via dvd's, albums and books and both Las Vegas concerts (thanks especially to jarkko for making good seats possible). If I came across an excellent seat for Bratislava, I'd also consider that!
I look forward to perhaps meeting some of you in person in Las Vegas.

I think many of us can relate to that! Welcome!

Hello - My name is Tony Crosbie and I live in Wexford in South East Ireland. I am a Leonard Cohen fan for 40 years. I have been listening to his music for all that time. I did not have the privilege of seeing him in the early years performing live. I did see him in Dublin however in 2008 and 2009 and can say that I was certainly not disappointed. I am delighted to be part of the forum and look forward to acquainting myself with same. It will take me a while to find my way around the site but I am definitely looking forward to it. Thank you for the opportunity..

I am also new to the Leonard Cohen cult. The funny thing is that I have been listening to his songs covered by others since Rita Coolidge recorded Bird on a Wire in the early 70s but I didn't know they were Cohen songs. I guess it was the K.D. Lang and the Jeff Buckley recordings of Hallelujah that caused me to dig deeper into its history. Once I started down that road, there was no stopping me. I was most definitely hooked on this brilliant, sexy man who wrote some of the best poetry of the 20th Century and, at the same, wrote beautiful melodies as vehicles for delivering those beautiful words. Add in his voice and stage presence and you have a creative genius.
I can relate to the thoughts expressed in one of the first posts on this thread...
No matter when someone discovers the magic of Leonard it is awesome. And it opens up a whole world of beauty, magic and poetry. Not all of us have been devoted fans for 40 years, even though we may have always been aware of him. His music and poetry will touch you when the time is right, and it will forever find a place within your heart.
Oh yes, his music and poetry will forever be in my heart.

Welcome to the forum helios. Let me try to make you even a little more financially irresponsible.
viewtopic.php?f=44&t=20091&start=75#p233814. I don't see that mabeanie1/Wendy has sold this ticket. If she has, keep monitoring this thread because as we get closer to concert dates, plans change and ticket holders may not be able to attend, so their tickets get listed here. In any case, I look forward to meeting you in LV!
Hi Tony and welcome. After being a fan for 40 years, it must have been such a thrill for you to see him perform live. As anyone here will probably tell you, that first live performance that you see takes 'fan of LC' to a whole new level. Living in SE Ireland, did you have the opportunity to attend either of the Sligo concerts?
Kate, I had to smile when you said 'cult'. Yes, I consider myself part of the LC cult and proud of it! You came to appreciate the genius of LC through covers. As many here and LC himself has said, Hallelujah cover overkill. That you came to know LC through covers (kd lang's version is my favorite) is the reason many of us say that covers are a good thing in that they bring people to the source and discover the genius of LC. Welcome to the cult

!
Best regards,
Mary

Thanks for the welcome, Mary. I am so glad I found this forum.
Covers are not bad at all. K.D. Lang's cover of Hallelujah ( my favorite as well) is so perfectly delivered and powerful that I had no other choice but to find out about "that Cohen guy" who wrote it. If it hadn't been for her cover, I may have missed him altogether. Instead, I will be in the audience for his final performance in Vegas in December. I am truly blessed.

The meet-ups are the bonus to this trip. I am very much looking forward to meeting everyone. The downside is the three month wait.

I first heard the words "It's four in the morning, the end of December" when I was still young and, to quote Mr Cohen himself (after reading Federico Garcia Lorca), he effectively ruined my life at age 15
It's now 19 years down the line and I will forever be greatful that I found this poet
I would've loved to still see him perform live (but I don't think he'll ever come to South Africa unfortunately...)

Belated thanks for the welcome to this warm place from KaimiK and MaryB. Despite encouragement and temptation, fiscal rectitude (hard to ignore in my more sane and boring personal reality checks) means Bratislava is unlikely ... though I hate to think it's completely out of the question. Why not ask for more? Whatever happens, I am so grateful for my Las Vegas ticket.

Hello!
I' m new to the forum and I'm still in my first steps as a LC admirer. I've keep listening to his songs and... oh, you know the feeling! No words to discribe it...
I haven't ever been to a concert yet, and you can't imagine how sorry I feel. I think that he came to Greece few years earlier, but I was to young to notice it.
I'm craving to see him live! It's actually painful to think of that (and I'm not exaggerating). I keep checking the dates of the tour, wishing that "Athens" will pop up magically.

Until my wish comes true, I try to forget it by reading the "Beautif Losers".
That's for start!
