Some lovely choices of songs there Bequia especially of Joan Baez and her sister Mimi Farina.
Sorry for the sharp contrast in my choice of music,but I did like this group and I've chosen a song which I think is less known than their bigger hits'
such as "Since You've Been Gone" and "All Night Long".This is "Magic" by Rainbow.

Kwills I too used to enjoy Rainbow a great deal. And other similar bands (enough said).
I confess I haven't heard half the tracks in this thread. I used to be envious that I wasn't 'there' in the sixties and early seventies. For my money, the two most powerful musical performances ever are Joe Cocker singing A Little Help From My Friends at Woodstock, and Led Zep's Since I been Lovin You from The Song Remains the Same film '73.

Eric was the first performer I saw live who really blew my socks off (I think

Hi Diane you were right about the video! Joe Cocker has a great voice though.He looks as if he is about to explode in his performances.

John, I preferred Nazareth's version of This Flight Tonight. Also immensely preferred their version of Love Hurts to The Everleys. (Also preferred Robert Plant's version of If I Were A Carpenter, and Fleetwood Mac's version of How Can We Hang on to a Dream.) It's always good to be reminded of the origins of things though.
Kwills, re Joe Cocker - the best things in life are either explosive or immensely subtle:-) That's the first time I have heard that Natalie Merchant Motherland. Thanks! The Christy Moore cover is a favourite song of mine (reminds me of Ireland, my mother's land). Something Irish (with Christy's guitarist):

Heard this on the radio this morning Bill Oddie singing 'I Can't Get Through' a self penned song released in 1966 I think.I hadn't thought of him as a singer songwriter before,apparantly he was quite popular up north.

Bill Oddie also made a great record for John Peel's Dandelion label...a version of "On Ilkla Moor Baht'at" sung to the tune of "With a Little Help From My Friends" and backed by the Joe Cocker Band! Since I can't find that on youtube, here's another song by a Dandelion artist, from one of the great overlooked albums of all-time (and also a single):
