It is nice to see you post without any blatant warmongering. I think you meant that maybe the irony was too *thickly* disguised not thinly. But I forgive your blunder in a Christian and friendly way.

....and, of course, I still recognize the intended humour on Leonard's part in the line.....just my choice to ignore it  .

well, let's make a deal. if and when Leonard ever comes down from his monastery, let's ask him whether he has ever made a joke on purpose in his music.

Paula H, Didn't you know that Leonard left the monastery about 2 years ago?

I think I understand your sense of humour, which is getting a laugh out of winding everyone up with your deadpan remarks. You certainly get a reaction!

Meet you at the foot of the mountain.....I'll even let you do the asking, whilst I'll take the role of jikan. Be cautious, though, you may find yourself laughing at one of his non-Christian witticisms. Perhaps we should write in advance so he'll be forewarned, lest his humour misses. He's such a gentleman, of course, if he's made duly aware, I'm confident he'll tailor one just for you.

Margaret I agree I too think Paula H is a wind up merchant.

In my best Lloyd Grossman voice "lets look at the clues"

(s)he is British she know Muffin the Mule Edwin Starr and cockney rhyming slang. (S)he knows full well Robbie is not Andy's son.

(S)he is perverse says black is white and drops in the odd controversal comment. (s)he is not what (s)he seems.

You were right Paula I did mean thickly

Leaving go of my Veganism briefly (Maybe I can be a dietary Vegan?)

I'm sure I remember reading that Leonard started out as a stand up comedian?

The poetry came second, the prose third and the music fourth (Somebody correct me if I'm wrong)

Paula (Both of you) humour is what you comprehend it to be - I find somethings hilarious but would never share them with ladies, not because I find them unfunny (and I'm sure that anyone who knows me would know where I'm coming from) but because I don't think they are appropriate for the ladies I know (And no it's not sexist cos theres men I wouldn't share these jokes with either)

JTS (I guess they won't exchange the gifts that you were meant to keep)

He didn't start out as a comedian but if you saw the 1965 video "Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr L. Cohen", when he was doing poetry readings before embarking on a singing career, the beginning is pure stand-up.

Tom Waits could never do 'stand-up', but he is very, very funny.

Why should Tom Waits do stand-up. He is a singer. Your confusion is as ignorant as mixing up a Dairy Farmer with a f***ing butcher. Jeeesh, get real.

To paraphrase what the late great John Milton once wrote on his blindness:

"He also serves who only milks and Waits!"

Yes Iagree that Dairy Farmer is far too agressive. And yet we are taught to try and bring every stray sheep back into the flock and so we must persist to try and show him the way, whether by use of the muffin or the stick.

As Leonard himself once said -"the".

for a Christian you are mighty agressive, Paula. I'll lend you some lambs so you can lie down peacefully with them and learn about humility.

I know all about humility and you are not at all humile.

DF my children sometimes look over my shoulder when I'm reading these threads'
"Bipolar is a roller-coaster ride without a seat belt. One day you're flying with the fireworks; for the next month you're being scraped off the trolley" I said that.
