Edge of Twilight is a good choice as it virtually consists of all the songs from the first 4 albums plus 'Power and the Glory'.
The reason I chose 'Playing the Fool' is that it shows how well they can do these complex arrangements in a live arena.

If I had to choose one official studio, non compilation, album then it would not be easy. It would be close between 'Three Friends', Octopus', 'Glass House', 'Power and the Glory' and 'Interview'.

I would most probably opt for "Three Friends", although a certain sentimentally important song (Isn't it quiet and cold?) stems from earlier times. And, yes, to keep things within the precious framework outlined by the name of a certain LC: there were times (mid-seventies, alas) when I thought I'd been one of the three human beings who had loved LC, and one of the four who had loved GG. Now I wonder if I was wrong, i.e. if it was the other way round?

Three Friends is a classic and possibly the one I would eventually choose.....if I had to make the ultimate choice.
But that does leave out 'isn't it quiet and cold' and even 'Funny ways'...and as for 'On reflection'!!!! ....wow

'wish you were here' is one of the most heart rending pieces of music - the live performance by roger waters and his band (on dvd) is a must if you are a floyd fan. i dont know who the young guitarist is on this but he certainly is a most skillful guitar player.
