RT and LC

Post by Cohendrix »

FYI--the Linda Thompson that David Foster was married to (I think divorce proceedings are underway) is NOT the same Linda Thompson that Richard was married to.

Thompson's _Front Parlour Ballads_ is a good little record but not RT's best recent work. If you want a better example of his recent work, check our _The Old Kit Bag_, which is a better album in all respects. (Singing, writing, performing etc.) While he was making _Front Parlour Ballads_ he was also doing _The Grizzly Man_ soundtrack, I believe, and it is possible that he over-extended himself a bit. I'm sure he'll be back on track with his next disc because he is one of the world's best living songwriters without question.

By the way, the group he used to be part of, _Fairport Convention_, was into Cohen and even covered "Suzanne" in a vaguely psychedelic way back in the day.

Cohendrix!!

Hi and thank you. Yes. Fairport Convention would make much more sense than 'David Foster'. I had mistakenly thought... you know...? And, I thought it an unlikely union. The one I see now, is much more to the 'feel' of what I thought Richard and Linda Thompson's music was.

Now, I'll know which aisle to walk down, if looking for his/their/her discs.

See ya,
Linda.

I ordered Front Parlour Ballads from Sam Goody on Monday. It should be here in two weeks they said. I hope it's as good as it sounds like it might be.

FPB is good but not as good as it should have been. Still there are enough good songs to make it worthwhile. It reminds me of Bruce's
Devils and Dust and Nebraska albums.Stripped down.It took a few months to grow on me.

Well, your comparisons sound good to me. I love Bruce's Nebraska album. Haven't heard all of Devils and dust yet. Just a few songs. I'll let you know what I think about FPB after I listen to it.
By the way, I'm going to check out the other one you mentioned too. What would you say is Thompson's best album? I haven't looked it up to see if he has a greatest hits out or anything.

With Linda Thompson his best cd is Shoot Out The Lights.Solo is a bit harder to choose. My favorite is Mirror Blue but I doubt if people would consider that his best.He does have a best of called Action Packed and a five cd boxset coming in February.

Here's a list of all his albums. You can click on each album for song titles and lyrics.

Awesome, Jerry. Thanks for the link. If I like the album enough, who knows, I may just jump right into the box set without much of a primer.:)
I'll look into the rest of it as I did FPB.
Best wishes.

Does anyone know if Tom Waits or Leonard Cohen covered this song? I have a beautiful woman offering me the world and stars if I can find her a copy of Tom Waits covering it, but I can't find any record of him doing so.

Thanks
