Have we omitted Joni Mitchell here because she slighted Leonard?

I think Diane has noted the most significant. Tina Turner for example must be the leader here if we are talking about rocking hard. Her stage energy is unequalled at that performance level with regard to her sisters. And like Mick Jagger she is still doing it in top gear.
Now Joni may be more laid back with her performance style and her tendency towards jazz rather than hard rock as her career progressed but I think her lyric content bites harder than most other female songwriters/producers. (check the lyrics to Banquet and Cold Blue Steel And Sweet Fire from "For The Roses")
Grace Slick is one who knew how to kick ass both as a performer and a writer. At the time she Joined the "Airplane"; Janis was the only other considered option.
And Carole King may be more of a balladeer than a rocker but her contribution to the industry has been monumental.
Just a few thoughts, Witty.

wait, wait, wait....
we've already had a mix-up between JJ CALE and JOHN CALE. now, i know there is a patti SMYTH and a patti SMITH. but i know nothing about mrs. SMYTH. i DO know about mrs. SMITH, and that's the one i'm speaking of.
patti SMITH did once live in the chelsea hotel, but i don't think she lives there anymore.
mrs. SMITH had an album called "horses," but NOT "fresh horses." and yes, she was prominent in the 70s.
in fact, john cale produced "horses," which was her first album, which came out in 1975.

Oh dear. I don't think I'm in a position to comment! Ahem. Although, 'Horses' and 'Fresh Horses' just sounds too close. Cale too, huh?
I think I'm going to do some semi-serious research on this.
Linda.
The Patti Smith I referred to just moved out of the Chelsea less than a year ago. I think, initially, it was probably just a mis-spelling of her last name. Still, to the 'net.

I suppose Tina Turner is 'really' a soul singer, but to me, having seen her live a couple of times, she sure knows how to rock. As you say, Witty Owl, there's so much power in her voice, and she had so much energy and stamina. I reccomend a live album to anyone.

I have been thinking about your post ever sincce you delivered it. I am finally settled in my view that there is only one "c" in the word "recommend".
I advise you to take more ccare in your spelling. Oncce you are ready to acept your dreadful blunder, leaving you quite bereft of ccredibility, then I will turn to the substance of your message.

Oh my, I was starting rest easy, thinking I'd got away with it after almost 16 years. I did actually consider a synonym for reccomend, 'but 'advocate' just turned out to be a sickly sticky yellow goo. What can one do?

Your cantankerous claim you can do the can-can in Cannes is conspicuously canny cant, can you or can't you?
You may also be interested to know that I thought my next door neighbour, Melonie, really fancied me! She kept calling me her honey-jew. When I suggested we run away together, she said we cant-elope..

Quite a pickle. Brine there done that. Goes lovely with home-prepared pizza: Cut melon into chunks; place melon and thyme sprigs in a 24-oz. jar. Pour Fruit Pickle Brine over melon; seal and chill 1 to 12 hours. Store in refrigerator up to 1 week.

A month after your spelling debaccle, I unveiled to an entrancced and hungry Forum, my Top Slad. Doubtless, you all remember
"But my favourite salad is considered disgusting by a clear majority vote of the family, 4-1, "banana, peppers, greens, tomato, cheddar cheese, raw cashew nuts, all covered in mayonnaise". There would have been no ccovid had you just eaten that delight 3 times a day"
Let's all be sicck together

I'm with your family on that one, solong. Banana and mayonnaise. Ugh!
You reference what Leonard Cohen said was the crux of the human situation: "...that’s everyone’s dilemma: At the times we think we’re coolest, what everyone else sees is a guy with his mouth full of banana…"
The best we can do is be sicck together. And that best turns out to mean quite a lot.

I never considered you an Hamburger Maven, but your shout-out for the 5 is interesting! Well done.
Meanwhile, I consider your paintings you paste on this Forum, to be among the Top 1 here. Well done.
And how do I, me, personally, rate the 5 Guy and how do I like dem burger cooked? Well done.

solong me olde mate, where's the beef in all this? Leonard Cohen found out that there is no banana. That's his life's teaching in the shell of a nut.
It's kind of you to admire my painting. What do you reckon, magnolia or white for the kitchen?
