I know exactly what you mean. By the time I phoned the KCET station in Los Angeles, they had already aired it - unannounced - at a civilized time slot. The midnight time above is a repeat. So, I urge all interested Cohenites to call your local PBS station for air times. If anything, this will show there is a definite interest in your community.

Arlene - great idea! So I went to our local PBS station's website, saw that it was being shown nationwide in August, searched our local programming for the month, nothing, called the station, they searched, nothing, and then was offered the DVD/CD set to purchase  . Well, hopefully, a bug was planted in their ear.

At least it is airing in your areas, sturgess and Arlene. Looks like Columbus, Ohio remains a 'cowtown'.

I wonder if the donation gifts offered to you are "leftovers" from early fundraising. Why would the station have them in the first place, if they were not being used for fundraising?

It is quite possible that it has been shown and already repeated in your area.
The pledge gift categories are:
Live in London DVD for a donation of $75
Live in London, 2 CD set, donation of $90
Both DVD and 2 CD set for a donation of $125

By coincidence, I just flipped on the TV and the broadcast was in progress with no advance listing.

Perhaps all the PBS stations were given a package and Columbus decided not to air it. I have been monitoring our local PBS station since the information has been posted here, and to date it definitely has not yet been shown. I will continue to watch for it, in case it 'pops' up. There is always hope.

I don't know if they get a promo copy (rather than it being left over from early fundraising) - maybe - and then they would have to put out money to "buy" more copies to "resell" for their fundraising? Somehow I think it all comes down to money. A few months ago PBS announced on their main page that they would be airing Eric Clapton/Steve Winwood "Live from Madison Square Garden" show and on another board that I visit, people all over the country were finding different air dates for show in their area - on their local PBS channels.

http://www.ericclapton.com/eric-clapton ... d-may-28th

Philly advertised that it would be on but then they showed something horrible in its place! And a few other people reported the same thing (I think I remember a disappointed person in Florida). I was disappointed and angry and had a bunch of back-and-forth e-mails with them. The person told me that they had "decided not to use it."  She told me to check some pay channel because it might be run there in the future. Anyway - I think they have their choice of what they use for their fundraising. Some is more expensive that others. And Philly has gone cheap!!! The reason Eric and Leonard cost more is because they are better!!! Damn it.    There - I said it and I'm glad. First no Eric Clapton. AND NOW NO LEONARD COHEN!

I talked to local PBS (WNET - 13) in NYC --- they said they only ran it for one week fund drive --
In response to "will you run in your next fundraiser?" -- the answer was "probably -- it did quite well."

I don't know the details of who pays what for what --- but I am certain these are not "leftovers from a previous fund raising." Have not seen any LC on this channel since I became a fan in 1995. They don't even carry Austin City Limits -- had to get that from other PBS channels.

I am also certain that the show has reached many old-time fans who are delighted by seeing our man featured this way, and has also made many new fans.
So, in spite of wanting better publicity and more showings, I have to say BRAVO!

I just checked my local listings again (WHYY - Philly).

Yes - they will be rerunning it.

August 18th at 2:00 a.m.

It's getting better. Last time it was at 3:30 a.m.

I am glad they are playing it across the country - but I'm not pleased with the "wee small hours" showing of it in Philly!

And dick - no Austin City Limits here either!

I guess I will try contacting them.

I like how PBS declares "Book of Longing" to be R-rated! :D

Hi,

WHYY, a Pennsylvania station, has Leonard Cohen: Live In London on their broadcast schedule for
tonight (Sept. 1, 2012). I don't know if other stations will also be broadcasting it.

Hi sturgess66,

The amount of fundraising around this airing of Leonard Cohen: Live In London was crass, i.m.o. Glad people
were able to see the concert video, but felt that the commercialization around promoting product was excessive
and irritating and that it took away from the viewing/listening experience. Personally did not have the time to
sit through some of the promotion and got involved with other things. This resulted in missing some of the video.
Others less interested in seeing the video on TV (whether or not they've seen it before or heard the Live In London
CD, no doubt turned the TV off or changed channels. The concert video started into the 10 p.m. hour
(after Auntie Mame), as you probably found out. If you got to see it, hope you were less annoyed than
I was. :D

Why don't you just buy the DVD? Prices start from just $8.84 on Amazon.com Surely worth the money so you can watch the show when you want to and without having to sit through the commercial stuff?
