Thank you - these latest installments are superb! Particularly liked Roy Hollingsworth's interview. It is just so down to earth. LC seemed to let himself go and just say whatever was on his mind without fear of offending too many sensibilities.

What golden treasures you have here. People wrote what they truly felt - how refreshing.

I hope there are more of these articles coming, or if I'm reading correctly, only a couple more ? What enjoyment I've been getting from them!

Hi Mary, thanks once again for your nice comments, and once again apologies for being quiet for more weeks than I intended. I'm currently on vacation - on the road beginning with relatives in Waterdown, ON, and then in motels with unknown Internet access until the end of July - and I had hoped I could post a couple more articles before I left. But things have been a bit crazy for the past few weeks, so it'll have to wait until I get back. My wife will be pretty happy when it's done, as the old clippings are spread all over my office, and have been for quite a few weeks now.

But I just wanted to point anyone who's reading this thread at a very nice intro that DrHGuy has posted on his Heck of a Guy blog at http://1heckofaguy.com/. If you haven't been there, take a look - the site is amazing, and a lot of fun.

Mary, you're correct that I only have a couple of articles left to post, and one of them is a jump forward to the nineties. But I still have some more concert programs, and after that something that I think you'll like as much as the articles. So stay tuned - I think it'll be a week or so in to August by the time I can do any more, as things are heating with several other things I'm involved with, but I'll get back to it as soon as I can.

OK, I'm back, and I had a rainy Sunday, so I've now finished the scanning. Pages 28-30 are new, and I've also added two more concert programs, both of which I think are from 1976. And I reorganized the Brighton program - I think it's better all in one document, though you do have to scroll around a bit.

I'm not 100% sure which program goes with which concert. I know one of them is from one of the New Vic concerts (I think the last one), but I'm still a bit puzzled by the dates, as I would have sworn I went on a Sunday, but the dates of July 6, 7 & 8 are Tuesday to Thursday. And I'm pretty sure the other was from the Manchester concert in May '76, in the Free Trade Hall.

Even though all the cuttings are done, I'm not finished yet. But that's enough time for one day.

The interview on page 28 - how wonderful! LC compliments the interviewer and for very good reason. And the relevance of this interview to the upcoming release of the Isle of Wight product - how fortuitous! Your timing is spot on.

I loved Program 2 and 3 especially because of LC's comments on how the songs were inspired. Such concise insights!

Gosh, a lot of reading. How some of hs critics differ in their views. He talks of retiring many times in the 70's.
What a good thing that he did not. We would never have been witness to that deep golden voice we hear now.

Question for the older fans

Was there a single review of him you can think of that didnt include a referrance to suicide or "rusty blades" or whatever,it still happens with lazy journalists now of course but it really seems like it took most people a very long time to get him,it gets so tedious dealing with these people,yes a lot of Leonards work is dark and melancholy but theres more light and humour in it than most songwriters could dream of......

Hi, thanks once again for the comments and interest in all this stuff - it's been a pleasure opening up the archives after keeping it all sitting around in a drawer for so many years. I think I'm finally done, with a couple of additions today.

Joe, I'm not entirely sure what you meant in the last post when you said "hope we get some more vintage live Lenny stuff...", but that's exactly what you do get, as the final additions are a couple of 1974 radio interviews. Not great quality, but it was 1974, and I was lucky that my friend Ravi was willing to let me borrow his state-of-the-art portable radio/cassette recorder.

I meant live recordings!.....would be great to get more albums along the lines of "Field Commander Cohen",reading about this period put me i the mood for more 70s stuff thats all
