Leonard Cohen will "keep on going till the wheelchairs rust"
August 14, 2012
In Ghent on August 12/12, the opening night of his Old Ideas World Tour, Leonard Cohen ran onto the stage for his signature opening song, Dance me To The End Of Love, and was greeted by cheers, a standing ovation from the sold out audience and a beautiful vision filled with love - Cohenites from many countries holding up white placards bearing a red Unified Heart logo.
This was organized with a lot of love by several Cohenites who spread the participation to many countries via the internet such as Facebook.
This beautiful gesture reminded me of what Leonard Cohen said at his last concert in Las Vegas, Dec 10/10 -
"I want to express our gratitude to those, I don't want to call them fans,
they are of a much deeper order than fans..."
After LC finished the song, he went on to make some very moving remarks.
Thank you for this wonderful warm welcome
Thank you for the beautiful signs
Thank you for coming from so many places to this concert here tonight
Your attention to my music is deeply appreciated
I don't know when we'll pass this way again
I said that the last time and here I am
But I think that we're going to...
with the help of G-D and to policemen...
we're going to keep on going
till the wheelchairs rust
And after I watched that segment several times to transcribe it and after I typed it for this post, I had tears in my eyes.
I have a video cued to watch LC's remarks on my LC Scrapbook

I am so grateful to all who have been posting video and audio clips, reviews, comments... and all of this wealth for only the first concert. It's almost like being there and there's so much to come! Thank you. I look forward to Los Angeles, but will enjoy every step on the way.

Back from the second show.
It was just amazing. Personnally, I liked it better than the one on sunday (which has surely to do with the fact, that this time I had very civilized people sitting next to me who did not disturb me by talking, singing or smoking.) The performance was just marvelous, my best Leonard Cohen concert so far.
He even changed the setlist by replacing Sisters of Mercy and Waiting for the Miracle with Banjo and Light as the Breeze (!!!!). Those two songs completed the first half of the set so perfectly. To hear all these Old Ideas songs in a row really showed me once again how good that new album really is. And Light as the Breeze was just THE surprise, I still can't believe it. Never would have thought that he changes the setlist already on the second show!
The band and Leonard were in perfect shape (although Leonard seemed to have some troubles during Anthem) and I had such a wonderful time watching them. The Suzanne/Crazy To Love You combo sounds so good. I bet that many concert goers think that Crazy To Love You is a very old classic.
My highlights of tonight's show were the Old Ideas segment at the beginning, Light as the Breeze, Tower of song (Leonard's voice was so impressive on that one) Crazy To Love You, Gipsy's Wife and the Partisan.
What a concert, what an experience. And Leonard ended the show with his blessings (which he did on the last tour as well). I loved that one!
It only saddens me now to hear that Night comes on was in the soundcheck. It was my last concert in Gent and it's my favourite song. But I won't complain, tonight's show was pure perfection for me!
Edit: Forgot to tell that Adam Cohen was present. (He was sitting in the audience in row 6 of the golden circle) He left however shortly before the end of the first set.
