FAMOUS BLUE RAINCOAT.

Post by MARTI »

I am an old fan of L.C., I almost forgot about him over the years, till the adven of his movie "I'm Your Man"

Now i am enjoying listening once again to his music.

I have a trivial question, but it has bothered me. Maybe someone can tell me what they think.

In the song, Famous Blue Raincoat there are the following lines:

"Jane came by with a lock of your hair
she said that you gave it to her
that night that you said you'd go clear,
did you ever go "clear?"

What does that line mean, what does it mean to go clear? does anyone know. All i can come up with is maybe it means, to get sober, but that's just a guess.

Just wondering, just one of those stupid things that go round in my head.

Thanks :P

Well, it's not stupid, at all... you know what they say about the only stupid question being the unasked one 8) .

Anyway, reportedly this line relates to Scientology and the ultimate achievement, therein. Leonard apparently explored this avenue for awhile in his own life. However, as I've mentioned in the other thread, someone else will need to bring our previous discussion on it forward for you... unless you're good with search engines and then, perhaps, you'll be able to find it yourself 8) .

As I recall, I didn't participate much in that discussion, but primarily [or exclusively] just read. I was WAY off in how I'd always read/heard those lines... as I was thinking in terms of the legal system and criminality  . Not the first ~ nor the last ~ time I've been wrong about the meaning of Leonard's lines  .
