Bob Edwards interview, XM Radio

Post by shiffi »

Hi, I'm new to this forum and a long-time LC fan.

A friend from the States (I'm from Australia) recently alerted me to an interview with Leonard on NPR (from June 2, I think). She said it was incredibly illuminating and beautiful.

Do you guys know where I can find this in download-able form, or alternatively where I can listen to it streamed? I thought I'd found it on XM, but then couldn't figure it out. I also couldn't find it on leonardcohenfiles.

Thanks to anyone who can help -- I would really appreciate any direction.

Sorry for beginning my leonardcohenforum journey without really contributing anything... Having found you guys, though, I'm anticipating getting involved in your fascinating discussions and dissections.

NPR's interview of May 22th was with Terry Gross for her Fresh Air show:
viewtopic.php?p=67303#67303 (available online on NPR site).

ASccording to http://www.xmradio.com/programming/xm_f ... 133&id=739, Bob Edwards didn't interview Cohen nor it's scheduled.

You're right, I see it now. I siply wrote "cohen" in Find button, and it said there's no such word; I did not scroll down the page

Thanks for the info, we shall see what's with that interview!
Highlights June 3-4, 2006

(...)

Hour Two:
Bob speaks with singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen. He's been a monk, a songwriter, and a poet. Now he treats us to a new book of poetry called Book of Longing and a new documentary Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man coming to theaters in June. Cohen also talks about his newest collaboration with his one-time backup singer and now lover, Anjani Thomas. The album is called "Blue Alert." Then Bob talks with music reviewer and Rolling Stone contributing editor Anthony DeCurtis about Anjani's cd, Blue Alert.

I don't know how they feel about it, but I like this description. "Companion" would be another good word.

I look forward to hearing/reading Rolling Stones's comments on Blue Alert 8) .

I tracked down this info:

"XM does not seem to keep archives (a family member is a subscriber). It's a radio station as opposed to a network like NPR, NBC, CNN, etc. So not even paid members can listen to past shows.

However, as Bob Edwards' show is made in connection with Public Radio, the show with Cohen is available for download via Audible.com for a one-off fee of $2.95. They even have a 3 minute free sample of the conversation. You can find it here: http://www.audible.com/adbl/site/produc ... Cookie=Yes. "

Thanks, shiffi! What's the modern world, I can get the one-hour interview from radio station far-away in US, for only 3 dollars:-)

Lizzy, I see you have finally given up your fantasy about Rebecca and LC. (Poor R...she went the way of all flesh.)

Yes, you're right... I have given up that alliance. Though from what has been written, it would seem they remain friends... not always the outcome with endings. Your parenthetical comment, of course  .
