Marianne Ihlen recent photo

Post by Dem »

I saw this some time ago in the alt.music.leonard-cohen newsgroup
but thought that now that you have listened and read Marianne's words you might also want to see a recent photo of her so I am reposting it here:

PS) Many thanks to the people who made the transcrips/translations of these moving interviews.

Just to add two minor corrections/clarifications:

a) When Marianne says :
"...So then I was on my way up gala Pigadhi, to my little house..."
she is referring to the site on Hydra that is known as "Kala Pegadia" (= the Good Wells or Twin Wells)
As Ira Nadel writes
"Kala Pigadia, the Good Wells or Twin Wells. Situated above the port, this is where water was drawn and people gathered to trade news and stories; the two small wells are shaded by several large trees."
http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/hydraB1.html
Those of us who were on the Hydra 2002 Event will remeber the place as we stopped there on our way to the Monastery.

b) When Leonard says
"...but I do remember bumping into her at ”Catsicus” it was the grocery store..."
he is referring to "Katsikas" store, where he also met for the first time the Johnstons:
"... Katsikas’ Bar, which consisted of “six deal tables at the back of Antony and Nick Katsikas’ grocery store at the end of the cobblestoned waterfront by the Poseidon Hotel.

Great information, Dem. I've been wondering what she meant by "pigadhi".

And thanks for the link to the photo. Very sympathetic.

Greetings,

Monk

Thank you for reposting the article with Marianne's photo, Demetris. It's good to see this lovely woman looking up.

The drawings of objects from the kitchen table include a flower. It appears to be a less-open gardenia... but, I don't know enough of the drawings of flowers to know for sure.

It's good to read these words, again, about Leonard and Hydra, and again, Marianne. I now wonder how she listens to/hears the title song of Dear Heather.

Actually, that photo was taken in the nineties.
