There's a new website up about the music of Mats Baughman (who counts Mr. Cohen as a major influence)...
Being a paranoid schizophrenic, Mats isn't widely known and his music is hard to come by, but it seems like this site is a fairly good introduction to him if you've never heard of him. Not for everybody, but some of his stuff is interesting.

A friend introduced me to his music and gave me a copy of a cd. From what I understand his stuff is pretty much home-made, so getting a cd isn't easy. I emailed the admin of the site and he said he'd be willing to send me some of the stuff I haven't heard. If you want to hear more you might try that route...bo fisher wrote:Thanks for the info and the link. I listened to some of the clips. Very interesting. How did you come to know about this guy and do you know how you would go about ordering his music?
Thanks again.

Hi Harry ~
Welcome to the Forum
. I finally, just now, got a chance to read some of the lyrics; and to listen to all of the snippets, or whole, of songs, while reading along. I love the perspective and lyrics of "The Crow's Funeral"
, and would be very interested in hearing it; and really like his rendering of "Bachelor's Wife" [seems to have a 'Greek' influence in the music], "If Not Me," "Quarter Pint Pariah;" and "Waltz for One Dancer" ~ you can hear Leonard's influence in sometimes minor, other times major, ways. "A Man Who Can't Feel At Home" is very touching. These seem, overall, to be a collection of poignant songs of love and loss. Sadness is not a stranger. Some of his music/vocals aren't so appealing to me, but his lyrics are very interesting, regardless. From what you've already said, it seems this is a man who has literally 'suffered for' his art.
I like the cat images on his site, and he and his wife have four cats
~ I like this fact very much
. It's one of the best ones I can recall, where someone has just dropped in to share someone else's music.

Thanks for the welcome, and glad you found some of the stuff on the website interesting.
I've been lurking here for awhile, and listening to Leonard since, well, probably '92, when some Canadian friends played John Cale's cover of "Hallelujah" for me. "I'm Your Man" has become one of my all-time favorite albums...
