Night comes on
Night comes on
I'm new here:) hello everybody. I'm in love with Cohen for many years. I listen to him all the time...at work, at home. Recently I've been in love with "Night comes on" and "If it be your will". I'm so happy I found this site. Now I can see I'm not lonely & there're many people who love Leo as much as I do. Greetings from Poland!!! big hug:)))

Welcome, Magdalena! If you go to the Links page of
the main site, you will find also several Polish websites
dedicated to Leonard's work!
Are you familiar with Maciej Zembaty's Cohen covers?

Yes Jarkko, I know Zembaty's songs, I've got all of them in mp3:) thanks for links. translations made by Mirek Dworniczak are really beautiful. Very different from these made by Zembaty. It's puzzling - text of L.C. can be translated in many ways & each of them is special and beautiful....fascinating...
Re: Night comes on
Magdalena,
I'm new here, also, and share your love of "Night Comes On" and
"If It Be Your Will" (both were recently discovered by me on
"The Essential Leonard Cohen"). Nice that this forum is here
and that you are among others that share this interest.

Re: Night comes on
These are the existencialist songs, you know... the ones about death...Magdalena wrote:I'm new here:) hello everybody. I'm in love with Cohen for many years. And I thank you, I thank you
for doing your duty
You keepers of peace, you guardians of duty.
Your vision is right, my vision is wrong
I'm sorry for smudging the air with my song...

Re: Night comes on
I've never taken that way at all. the Various Postions period (along with Book of Mercy) was filled with prayers and psalms. "If it be Your Will" bieing an obvious example. It is adressed to God. No existenstialist would ever adress a song to God. Leonard has said many times he is a Jew and has always been.Jinx wrote:These are the existencialist songs, you know... the ones about death...Magdalena wrote:I'm new here:) hello everybody. And I love the lyric "all your children here, in our rags of light, all dressed to kill." If Cohen were alive a couple thousand years ago, words like that would have made people start religions around him.
