Thread locking.
Re: Thread locking.
So the sunshine state is not all it's cracked up to be. What a life having to stay in and type away when you can't get out to take the benefits of sunshine and oranges...
I guess it all started for me sometime around Christmas 1967 and now, goodness me, it's.........2018 and over fifty years later.
No one ever listens to me. I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record.

There used to be the well-known, proverbial "dog days of August" here ~ when they show up en force in June, though, there's clearly a problem. So, we have a ways to go with this overwhelming heat. I do go out, but concentrate on early to mid-/late-morning... and then late afternoon, early evening.

Ah you see, lizzytysh, that's the difference - for you sun is the norm, for us it's a rare, treasured pleasure!lizzytysh wrote:You have NO idea how debilitating the heat and sunshine can be here:
Prefer it like that, though...There is an Irish saying "Is blasta an beagan" - little is appreciated. True.

We have a similar saying... "The grass is always greener [on the other side of the tracks]."
In fact, having grown up in Michigan, I've found myself longing for the snow and chilly-to-cold weather... and ALWAYS the Michigan summers... sublime.
A walk in the woods, without worry of rattlesnakes [they're there, but FEW, in Michigan]; a swim in a lake without worry of water moccasins [aka cottonmouths] or alligators.
When I lived in the Keys, we had the sun, but with it also the sea breezes, which tempered the heat. The threat of hurricanes could become a bother, but generally life there was superb. Here, the heat is 'land locked.'
Humans... never 'quite' happy with what we've got.

Re: Thread locking.
I'm a bit of a binger. I scoff, get my fill, get bored of it then don't bother with it again for ages. It can be certain foods, computer games, scrabble etc. I'm the same with this forum. I come back to it from time to time, read all the old threads that catch my eye, reply to those I feel strongly enough about or mostly because I have nothing better to do like now; I'm waiting for a TV programme to start.
So, I for one don't like it when a thread is closed because I can't then add my thoughts for what they're worth and from what I read they're as worthy as any other.
I suppose that one could re-start a thread: part 2?
Was there a particular thread that became boring and therefore offensive to certain parties? If so why were they even bothering with it?
The forum is a bit boring at the moment now the tours have finished, it's like an end of an era and we must all readjust. I hope it carries on though with everyone contributing freely, honestly and without prejudice but if someone's honest opinions upset others; that's just too bad. This is a public forum after all and we should all have equal rights to hold an opinion and share that opinion if we wish to even if we are just 'guests' here.
We are all here because we admire Leonard Cohen's music, songs, poetry etc. Some are on here so much I wonder if they have a life at all away from this forum and some go on and on... but that's not my concern, if it gives them pleasure or an interest then why not let them go on and on: it's not hurting anyone is it? No one is obliged to read everything on here and the moderators are here to police it.

Couldn't agree more.
I often think I won't bother to post here any more, but then I keep coming back - because I like some of the people I have got to know on this forum, like you and Vicomte!
