Bob Dylan: Europe Tour, Fall 2013

Post by Marlene J. »

I am probably late to the party, but I haven't seen any threads about Dylan's Europe Tour (only for our British friends), so I figured I could create one~. :D I guess we can use this thread both before the tour starts and share our expectations or whatnot - but also after, and share our experineces, if anyone is up for that. :)

Here are all of his upcoming tour dates: http://www.bobdylan.com/us/upcoming-dates.

He only has one Norway date so far, but I have secured tickets and a date with a vert y beautiful girl, so I'm not complaining. I think I can live on this happiness for the rest of my summer break. Many of you have probably seen him many times before, I'm sure, but this will be my very first concert.

I had money enough to buy tickets to Leonard's Oslo gig, but I decided that I wasn't going to let this opportunity to see Bob Dylan live pass. At least I will have seen them both live once in my life, and that's more than I have ever hoped for, to be honest with you. (I'm SUCH a drama queen, ha ha~.)

I have read different accounts about his concerts, and some have been very disppointed I understand, but I think it will be a great experience no matter what - at least to me. I'm finally able to see him live - just that alone is enough to make me jump in happiness!

Just a few threads below

I guess it all started for me sometime around Christmas 1967 and now, goodness me, it's.........2018 and over fifty years later.
No one ever listens to me. I might as well be a Leonard Cohen record.

Don't listen to the doubters.
Go along to the Dylan gig, take it in context, and enjoy.

I've seen Bob Dylan live maybe 5 or 6 times in the last ten years. His band is always incredible, and although his voice is pretty wrecked and he takes disconcerting liberties with the melodies, somehow he still manages great expressiveness. If it's the Oslo date you're going to, it looks like that's the first date on the European tour, after more than a month off. That should promise well... I've noticed it makes a big difference how rested Bob's voice is.

And I see there's a date in Irvine, California... maybe I'll be seeing Dylan again myself.

Yeah right, forget how his Bobness once sounded and listen to how poor he sounds now...sorry no comparison. The concerts of years gone by are a million times better than one can expect to hear now. He is a legend and that is the only reason for anyone to go see him now. Sadly you may even struggle to recognise some of his songs at his gigs these days. As for doubters, having seen and listened to him since the 60's, the last decade or so has seen a massive difference to his voice, even though as I said elsewhere in the forum, he can still bring out some brilliant studio albums, which sadly cannot be reproduced on stage by him.

I understand those who have been fans for years and years, that they are disappointed with his lives nowadays. But keep in mind that I'm only 21, I haven't been there from the start. Sure, I've seen live clips here and there from back in the days, but I essentially have no previous real life experience to compare this gig to, so I will probably not have the same hopes and expectations as older/more experienced fans do. I might be disappointed too, but I might not be. Time will show, right? :) Luckily I don't pay much attention to negative comments. I don't let them influence my excitiment for this gig. Like I mentioned in the opening post, I'm very much looking forward to just seeing him live in person for the first time in my life. That in itself is probably my greatest excitiment. But please don't misunderstand; of course I'm looking forward to hearing the music as well!
