David Fanning interviews available

Post by Maarten »

Hi,
In the Sligo thread, some forum members were talking about Dave Fanning interviewing Leonard Cohen and noted that I uploaded these on an FTP-site quite some time ago. The FTP-site is down, but I have uploaded them through Sendspace.com and here are the links:

First interview:
Rebroadcast on Drivetime with Dave Fanning (RTÉ Radio 1) - Sept 25 2006
http://www.sendspace.com/file/z74qjg

Second interview:
Fanning on Sunday - The D-Files (1993)
(6 tracks)

2: http://www.sendspace.com/file/0u8hks
3: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ixa01x
4: http://www.sendspace.com/file/9zd3oc
5: http://www.sendspace.com/file/37t8lx

Maarten,

Thank you for posting these interviews once again. As a fairly new fan I look forward to listening to them. Leonard always has something interesting to say. Plus he has a lovely speaking voice as well as his singing.

Shortly after the release of his 1992 album ‘The Future’ Leonard Cohen had a long chat with Dave Fanning. The interview was broadcast on the Dave’s RTE show on 21st January 1993. Leonard Cohen is of course playing four gigs at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, this September 11th, 12th, 14th and 15th. Cohen is returning to the spot where he was reduced to tears four years earlier. The singer broke a 10-year hiatus from live shows when he performed in the grounds of the Irish Museum of Modern Art in 2008. Concert impresario Rob Hallett who persuaded the singer and poet out of retirement, said he used a show in Dublin two years earlier to win his argument. The promoter and life-long fan persuaded Cohen there was a massive audience waiting to see him on the back of a two-night tribute concert ‘Came So Far for Beauty‘ in The Point Theatre October 4th and 5th 2006.

Thanks for posting this link.

Never heard this interview before, really enjoyed it.

Does anyone know how I could get an mp3 of this? The sendspace files are down and I have no idea how to record audio stream.

I would like to keep a copy of this and also put one on a cd for a friend who does not use the internet.

Scowler,
Right-click and "Save as": http://fanningsessions.files.wordpress. ... 1-1993.mp3

If you go to the page of the interview (http://fanningsessions.wordpress.com/20 ... interview/) and you check the source code, line 140 says:
<param name='FlashVars' ...soundFile=http%3A%2F%2Ffanningsessions.files.wordpress.com%2F2012%2F05%2Fleonard-cohen-fanning-interview-21-1-1993.mp3' />
With a little bit of puzzling (%3A = : and %2F = / etc...) you can fairly easily find the location of the file... :-)

Hope this helps!
