Can't sleep!
With another long night ahead I thought I’d inflict my insomnia on the rest of you…
The shadows fall and night comes on,
a silence fills the air.
Then time slows down and almost stops,
and leaves you waiting there.
You count the minutes one by one,
the hands of time go round.
You long for sleep or peace of mind
but neither can be found.
The sounds of night come crashing in,
they saturate your mind
And fill you with an emptiness;
a dark foreboding kind…
Then finally when eyelids close
and sleep is on its way,
a chink of light creeps softly in
and starts another day.
Going to light some lavender candles and listen to one of my favourite pieces of music from Puccini’s ‘Madam Butterfly’ and hope that helps! (All other suggestions welcome)!

Perhaps you should try some Prozac? Paxil? Wellbutrin? Effexor? Ritalin? Focalin? ...Karren B wrote:(All other suggestions welcome)

One for my elusive Irishman (who will be tucked up fast asleep by now...he would't be if he was here)

Boy... you NAILED it, Karren!
How many nights... when I DID have insomnia... did I finally, finally, drift off... only to have my alarm go off a half hour later... that chink of sound, actually quite blaring, given the lack of sleep
. I feel for you.
My suggestion would be Valerian Root or Melatonin [low dosage... 3 mg or 5 mg]. I've tried the warm milk thing and it's hardly been the cure-all. Sheep and such... forget it.
Funny how active your mind can become during those times, too, isn't it?
Thanks for the infliction. They should all be so well done and relate-able! Once again, you just zing along with those rhymes and rhythms... like they just float out of you. Lavender sounds good and Puccini sounds sublime. I'd go with Turandot or La Boheme, but I tend to really get 'into' them to where I'd just get up and go singing around the house, instead.
Thanks for the fun reading.

You're welcome lizzy...
Funny how silence can be so loud in the darkness of the night.
The lavender candles are nice but a lavender oil massage works better, unfortunately I seem to lack volunteers at the moment (mentioning no names)

Just as an aside: The meter of the poem makes it possible to sing it to the tune of 'A Thousand Kisses Deep' ...

Haha... just noticed your location...
If this is my second time noticing, it's been awhile and I'd forgotten
.
Right. That silence becomes a language of its own.
Right... on the lavender, too... hah.
Like your observation on A Thousand, Hartmut... I knew it felt familiar when I read it

GORGEOUS!! A right spot for the Irish, too, I'd say
Well, g'day to you... it's a weekend day off for you, at least, right?

It could almost keep you lying awake at night thinking about it, couldn't it
