Let me put it this way..

The thought that cause emotion is the one you did not perceive.
If it is real what cause your emotion, then what you think is the cause of emotion is not true.

So nothing real can cause emotion.

Answers are'nt important, questions are.
Your question is based upon another question.
The moment you ask me the right questions you see you have more answers you think you have.

What is the real question?

You know Leonard knows about people like you. He even has songs about you, writing about you.

You are trying to understand why you are connecting with the songs of Leonard. You are sure about the basics of your understanding.

Pardon me beokii, but I wanted to ask you...

I am a little confused about what you are saying on some things...

While I agree - our measure of maths, (our measure of anything scientific, or anything atall for that matter) as a human race- is our own creation... and all of the flaws and valid / invalid points of argument that this may lead to...

But to say
So nothing real can cause emotion.
- on the contrary... I think that which is 'real', as you put it - must, by definition, be the very thing that generates the purest form of emotion.

No?

It is.

Nothing real can cause emotion.
Only wrong thoughts about the real can.

As you record your perception through life, there are so many thoughts your not aware of.
when you see a pic, or something else that reminds you of a thought that has forgotton then you might remember.

Most people making decisions of what they can conscious remember.
But there is also a decision based on all records including new ones.

Emotion is the difference.
Most of what people know is hidden so.

then you said -

But I am saying that I fundamentally disagree with your point here, though you seem to think that I am actually agreeing with you. I'm not, I was just interested about what your basis is for believing that nothing real can cause emotion.

Well anyhows, difference is what makes the world go around afterall :)

It's the other way around.

It is, I was pointing to what I said before and not to your message.

It is, to what you are disagree about.

Also I'm more talking about negative emotion, I don't said it's a bad thing or a wrong thing. I meant it is essential for humans to have a good idea about what emotions are meant for. A lot of people have a reversed meaning of fear, when they got feared, they assume it's there to warn them about what's about the happen. And all I'm saying is, that it is a signal from the unconscious mind for u to realize what you are thinking is irrational. It's a little like the RET theory.

I don't need to prove my point so I better stop discussing it.

Good luck : )

Dear Geoffrey,
Please accept my apologies for not posting more replies on the important thread you started. I've read all the messages, most of which don't address the question you posed: none of them answer it. Beokii seems to be on a planet of her/his own.
" It is essential for humans to have a good idea about what emotions are meant for" (sic).
Beokii, with respect, I haven't read so much garbage in the eight years I've been a member of the Leonard Cohen Files.
On Thursday, July 15th, I became a grandfather: my daughter in law Mags (Margaret) gave birth to a beautiful boy, Arlo. My son Daniel is a father at last, and as for Mags....rip up the script about "what emotions are meant for" (sic).
Geoffrey, he's a gorgeous laid-back stunningly beautiful wee boy.
Whoops, must get back to the plot..."I don't get it ".
I still can't get the fact that I am a grandfather......"a time of inncence, a time of confdences".
With respect to all, especially those to whom I haven't replied,
Andrew.
