Congratulations Leonard!
What an honour for you and so well deserved. In my humble opinion there has never been anyone quite like you and there likely never will so we are all lucky to be here appreciating you and your words and music and song.
Thank you so much for being you!
Thrilled for you and will definitely come see you as much as I possibly can to hear you again and again in concert.
Thank you for touring into 2010!
and again congratulations.
Love Mutti (Leslie)

Lifetime Achievement Award....wonderful. But I think Leonard STILL should receive far more than this! However, for the moment I am thrilled for the recognition that he....his music....his poetry....will be receiving! Every award...no matter how small or large, is acknowledgement of his supreme talent! I will be awaiting the presentation with great anticipation!
Leonard....dear Leonard...you have spoken to our hearts for decades. You have touched us. Deep within. Deeply, lovingly, sometimes with mixed messages....but you have reached us where no one else has been tempted to tread. You have consoled us....tantalized us....made love to us (er, us women)...you have given us strength...supported us through the darkest nights. I embrace you, and give thanks for all the well-deserved recognition that you are receiving now!

ladydi - your words say beatifully what so many of us feel. When I listen to Leonard, there are simply no words to describe him, just feelings. I don't listen to him in the house, only when driving - frequent long journeys, with just me and his voice in my car. Heaven! His songs fill me with warmth, yet also such sadness. I find myself pressing the repeat button when Marianne, Joan of Arc, a live version of Bird On a Wire, Gypsy Wife, and The Window in particular are playing.
How can someone I've never met - though seen from a few rows back in a stadium -occupy my thoughts so frequently and be beside me so much? I don't analyse things too much, but for me it's the contrasting feelings he gives me - warmth, joy, sadness, pain, tears - and these can all wash over me whilst listening to just the one song.
That is his gift. And I simply love him.
Gilly, x

Nothing new here except that they did use a picture of Leonard Cohen for the article so I thought I would post it.

Grammy Awards Show Shaping up With Performers and Tributes
Relax News
Wednesday, 23 December 2009
Performers for the 52nd annual Grammy Awards were announced with a lineup of headliners to ensure the show has top-flight talent -- and that most major nominees on hand to accept their awards. The 2010 musical event happens January 31 at Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.
Ten-time Grammy winner Beyoncé will perform at the ceremony, as well as pop singer Taylor Swift, hip-hop act the Black Eyed Peas, soul singer Maxwell, and country act Lady Antebellum.
Beyoncé leads the nominees this year in 10 categories including Best Record of the Year, followed by Swift who nabbed eight, the Peas and neo-soul man Maxwell who both got six, and Lady Antebellum received two.
The show will also honor an accomplished group of musical legends with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Presented with the special kudo will be Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, the late Michael Jackson. Bobby Darin, Loretta Lynn, Andre Previn, and Clark Terry will also be recognized on January 30, at a ceremony before the televised program.
Grammy Week prior to the main show includes a series of events including functions such as the MusiCares dinner paying tribute to Canadian rocker Neil Young.
Also scheduled is "Cue The Music: A Celebration Of Music and Television," part of the Grammy Foundation's Music Preservation Project. The evening features historical television footage from the Paley Center for Media and live performances by Grammy nominees Colbie Caillat, the Fray, singer/songwriter Jason Mraz, and Solomon Burke at the Wilshire Ebell Theater.
Illustrator Shepard Fairey has been selected to create the artwork for this year's Grammys. He will combine traditional Grammy iconography with his unique designs for the program book, poster and cover of the nominees CD. Best-known for his "Hope" portrait of Barack Obama for the presidential campaign, Fairey's Studio Number One has produced CD cover art for the Black Eyed Peas, Led Zeppelin and the Smashing Pumpkins.

Re: Leonard Cohen-Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award
I understand from Esther that Leonard plans to attend the ceremony where he receives his award. It takes place on the day before the actual televised Grammy show.
Assume we'll hear his name and of the award, but doubt we will see him on the telecast.
We all share pride in yet another key honor recognizing our man's greatness!

Thanks Dick for the information. Of course I am going to tape the Grammy's in case they do show something of Leonard's career the way they do for the Oscar's.
you never know...but I agree they probably only say the names..but we can hope!

Re: Leonard Cohen-Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award
As well as the ceremony on the 30th, it looks like Leonard Cohen will also be honored at a "Canadian" soiree in California - on January 28th.

In late January, three of the most celebrated Canadian natives to achieve international stardom are stepping into the spotlight to be feted. Taking bows will be three senior citizens: Norman Jewison, Leonard Cohen and Neil Young.
Cohen will receive a lifetime achievement award at the Grammy Awards on Jan. 31. Young has been chosen by Grammy organizers as the MusiCares Person of the Year for his philanthropic work. Both will be honoured by the Canadian government at a soiree on Jan. 28 at the residence of Consul General David Fransen.

Congratulations Leonard, so absolutely deserved. You certainly achieved keeping so many people happy for so many years. Your words and smiles have warmed me through these many years.
It was a lovely touch to look back at St Theresa's post and see Hank Williams Snr there on the awards list. See Leonard, you do deserve to be there on the same floor as him, it's official.
All my love and thanks
