Just a poem of mine
The Master’s Tools
There is the poem I long to write
forsaking all other poems, all other arts.
It was to be hauntingly beautiful
so much so that people would shiver
or even weep to read it,
and when it was read aloud
from raised pulpits or soapboxes
people would fall to the ground
and imagine they had been touched.
Through it I would reach out
leaving scars upon their bodies.
But it was beyond me,
an apprentice may never use
the Master’s Tools.
So I return to my anvil
to resume hammering out
my education as a wordsmith.

you never have to tell me what it is you really think of me, I'll just say I'mdoing fine, but do I have to dance all night. -Leonard Cohen

"me" ?
your poem misses the point,
intentionally or unintentionally.
It still misses the point.
Intent.

I disagree. Intentionally, or unintentionally, I think it makes just that point: intent.
Re: The Master's Tools
I really liked reading this- though I have to be honest - I differ greatly!
When I write something, I am totally selfish in some respects. While I guess that it must be true - that I wish, in some ways, for my ramblings to be understood somehow on some level - when I write a poem I am far more bothered (- and sometimes painfully frustrated - Grrr!
), about whether or not I am 'hitting the nail on the head' for myself, whether or not I am personally getting everything I can out of it.
I must be a bit thick skinned in some ways, which is probably the only reason I have been able to share anything that I have ever written atall. But certainly, I write poems to express myself and kinda don't know if that's OK or not OK by anyone else really.
Maybe that's not the best approach! Maybe it's a bit too selfish ?? - though I don't think that as such, it's just the way it is.
Mind you, I am not an expert, if there is such a thing as an 'expert' - when it comes down to being thoroughly open (and opened) through some avenue like writing poetry.

An interesting post "Alsiony. In my (not so) humble opinion, when one is true to oneself on paper, that truth will be apparent to any who read. Though the corollary is also: that if one is gifted at fooling oneself, then one may be unable to connect with the future reader.

Indeed Gina!
I hope it didn't sound like I was critising those who may deliberately wish to set others alight with their words/creations though!
for t'was not my intention! - It takes all sorts and I am the first to say that I whole-heartedly believe that to be the truth.
