maybe it s the fact it s hard to sign in , or they lost the password , or they have a life , way to many interests to visit here that often, maybe they have 20 different websites they post on , work , on vacation ,tragety struck , or just watching a good movie,..or , like me , lenard is just another person , like us,..... and i might think i was obsested if i visited here too often , lol
I've picked up this thread too late as I'm a few pages past it. But my son who has just turned 18 discovered Suzanne (The song) last year and was just knocked out. Now he listens to other Cohen and at the moment loves the song 'I can't forget'. Which really I thought would suit me at the age fifty. I love that line Lizzy 'little did I know how long I would stay by that river', its just got me. A poem in itself.
I wonder how do we imagine the female Suzanne from the song?

Smile I can so relate to that. The thing that strikes me is if it weren't for complete imbeciles such as I the smug know it alls wouldn't keep correcting our speech, grammer, spellings and suggesting reading matter to improve our lifes!
What you have to remember is we all have a gift for something and while I may not be as knowledgable as a lot on this forum on a lot of things there is bound to be something I know more about that they. So I keep putting my oar in regardless.
Some people only know a lot about a little and others know a little about a lot. Try introducing a topic that you feel you have some knowledge on you may be surprised to find you have more expertise than you think. Don't let the b*****ds grind you down. You know more than you think

Don't you think that having anonymity gives you that bit more confidence to voice your opinions and not feel as intimidated?
There are very few people that post using their real names or indeed even state where they live.

I agree with what both of you [Smile, Paula] have said. With regard to your comment, Rock Rose, it seems the spirit of a person somehow never feels anonymous, but quite exposed
. Otherwise, I would agree with you, as well
. Please post more, Smile, I've seen some lovely postings from you in the past
.
Exactly, Paula, we all have our weaknesses. We all have our strengths.
Thank you, Glyn, for your compliment. When I think back, that's how I see it. I guess the "poetic"
side of me forces her way through, once in a while, eh
? Thanks.

Very good point. Sadly though, if a person has self-esteem 'issues' and/or bitter resentments, no amount of anonymity can alleviate it. You can even pay such a person a compliment, yet they will still manage to view it as some 'slight' to them. There's a saying that so many people see the world not as it is, but as they are.

Rock Rose, I agree with you about your point regarding contributers who hide behind names and never state where they live. The snipers have always hidden in the woodwork and we only know they exist when they fire off one of their 'less than constructive' barbs, to gain some effect. Like children at the back of a classroom who are the ones with the rubber bands who get their kicks out of causing trouble from behind. And didn't they always look angelic when a cry went up from their latest innocent victim?
I always used to do my best to avoid such people and tried to lead a quiet life, but now that I'm old and grey, 'I shall wear purple/With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me,/I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves......And learn to spit.'
and shove my face into anyone else's face who wants to be clever or a bully.
Byron sincerely 'sends his regards.'
Lest he be mistaken for any other contributer, Byron would like to state that he is not a Clinical Psychologist.

Lizzy, yes you are right. The written word is a powerful medium and of course you gain a sense of who a person is from their postings. However, I feel that some people are able and/or more willing to express themselves under a nom de plume than they would under their own identity, much in the same way that you hear about shy people becoming actors and confidently expressing themselves under the guise of another character.
Makera and Byron, I'm certain that all people posting on this forum who are not using their actual names (possibly around 95% although don't quote me on this figure as maths has never been my strong point) either have self esteem issues or are trying to hide bitter resentments or that they are necessarily 'snipers hiding in the woodwork'. Although I take your point, obviously there are some that just by browsing the threads you pick up on. I trust that neither of you fall into these categories or are you both posting under your real names? Personally, I think that it is a bit of fun to assume a name and often wonder how people pick them and what they mean. These ponderings could develop into a thread of their own.
I suppose you do get to a stage in life when it is easier to thumb your nose at the world and not give a dam about what you say and do. I too shall grab my purple hat and perhaps a ruler and a supply of rubber bands and make my way down to Boogie Street.
See you there?
Best Wishes

Rock Rose, my own details are well documented throughout several threads of the forum already.
"I shall wear purple..." comes from 'Warning,' a poem by Jenny Joseph. It looks at the freedom which old age can bring to people who have had to watch their "p's" and "q's" all of their life. You yourself will know someone of 'later years' who can sit in a room full of people and happily talk (loudly sometimes) about whatever comes into their mind. Often to the embarrassment of close family and friends. I love it when 'old' people do that. They can get away with it in a way which young folks cannot. The poem is a celebration of 'liberation.' When you've only got the grave to look forward to, you take a whole new slant and vision on your life and the people around you. Really refreshing.

Dear Rock Rose ~
I agree with you......however, I think you left out a word "not" from your long sentence, to Makera and Byron, regarding what you think regarding self-esteem, etc. issues with people who don't use their real names, right?
Love,
Lizzy
So do I, Byron.......high-spirited, old people are the greatest
! I'll bet in his private life, Leonard comes up with some great things, when he's amongst family and close friends, too
!
